DO you have any pepto in liquid form? My vet suggested that for Kota. I believe she said 4tsp for 50lbs. If your's is a jack russell I would only give her a tsp. Is there something she could have gotten into? Has her diet changed? Do you feed table scraps? Any one of those things could have caused it.

Did the loose stool start after you gave the rib bone? Was is cooked or raw? Cooked bones always scare me because they can splinter. Kaopectate (sp?) is really good for upset an stomach as is Pepto (but be caureful because Pepto contains asprin). Any time I have prolonged loose stool or vomiting, I call the vet. It is better to be safe than sorry. You also want to be sure some of the bone didn't get stuck in her intestines. Good luck anf let us know how she is doing. Also, don't feed her for about 24 hours so that her digestive tract can calm down. Yogurt with live active cultures is also good to give after the loose stool stops to replenish the good bacteria in the digestive tract.

Kaopectate had a formula change a few years ago and has now added bismuth subsalicylate (aspirin) as an active ingredient in their product. So I'd be careful giving this to your dog also. The fact that she started feeling ill after eating the rib bone concerns me. Maybe a call to the vet would be wise. Hope she feels better soon.

Since in appears that the rib bone or part of it may have been ingested and the illness may have begun around the same time I would seek the advice of your veterinarian as soon as possible rather than doing anything at home.

I agree, the dog needs a vet. It could be any number of things.. if her immune system has been compromised due to bacteria in the rib bone,or something else, the dog may be experiencing a bout with coccidia or giardia, which is difficult to detect, but easy to treat if caught soon enough. It could be the rib bone is not digesting and is causing infection, or obstruction, or it could be food poisoning.
