caught 9mo. old dachshund mating!

ok, i caught my two dogs today mating, Bingo n Duchess. : Duchess is only 9months n a dachshund..n bingo i around the same age..a mixed breed. i have pics in the gallery if anyone is interested. she isnt the same size in the pictures though..she's bigger now n doesnt have her puppy hair anymore in the pictures. They probably have been going at it for about a few days now..maybe a week at most. last week i noticed she was on her first period.

do they get pregnant as easily as one would think? Im in the process of seperating them right now til she's over her heat. n if she is pregnant..a 9mo. old dog..how will she react to pregnancy? n i know its not safe..but will she still be able to bare puppies? she's a tiny dog, i guess that's how she'll be forever. she's just a little bit bigger than the cats around our neighborhood.

idk what to say about this, i just caught them today, n i was kind of mad at bingo ,but then again..they're dogs. what shoul i do? im thinkin about getting her spayed..or him neutered, n i'll probably take her to the vet either this or next week depending on my schedule. any comments or suggestions are welcomed. thanks

Well, if they have already been mating, and she is in heat, you should get her to the vet a.s.a.p. They can spay her before the pregnancy really "gets going." In the meantime, you should keep them apart. Two unaltered, opposite sex dogs should never be together while the female is in heat unless you are trying to get pups. Good luck with it.

don't be mad at them, be mad at yourself. you're the human of the bunch. they're just doing what nature and instinct are telling them to do. get your bitch spayed before she has the litter. we don't need any more pups in this world right now.

9months is a bit young for her to carry pups, it could even stunt further development of her body. I would take her to the vet right away and get her fixed they will do it even if she is pregnant and it would be best for her.

Also, I would fix bingo as well. He will be able to smell a female in heat as far away as two miles, and you don't want to worry about him sneaking off or running away or trying to get out the door everytime someone else's dog is in heat. It would be dangerous for him and really hard work for you. It's best to have them both fixed.

I agree with Elegy. If you noticed last week that she had gone in season the two dogs should have never been allowed to be together in the first place but whats done is done and it's now up to you to make sure your female is spayed before she is too far along.

Your male should be neutered as well before he has the chance to mate with another dog.

Get her to a vet. for a spay or at least a shot so she doesn't have pups. I'm not sure why you have not had her spayed and the male neutered. Having pups on a first heat can be very dangerious to the mom and to the pups, so please do the right thing by that little female. They don't know any better but you should!

IMO, you should get them both spayed/nuetered.

I agree spay and neuter both ASAP. I can certainly understand the issues of not wanting to because I had world war 3 with my husband over neutering Yukon. He was determined to breed with him no matter what. Even if he failed health tests and xrays. Nothing matter to him just a quick buck with puppies; ooppss rained on that parade, I just took Yukon in and had it done. So he is neutered and no breeding here. AW I am such a horrid person aren't I?

You bad, bad person you! Taking that dog in and having him neutered! Kudos to you for being responsible!

You should have a spay and neuter party!! I would hate to think that you are an irresponsible dog owner. We don't need anymore accidental breedings in the world. If you can afford to have them both fixed at the same time I would do that, but if not at least get her fixed ASAP as everyone else said don't wait till she is further along.
