Raw bones VS Dental treats
I have heard that even raw bones can also cost problems. Also most bones come with some raw meat attached, i am not sure if i should give to my dog, it takes her weeks to finish chewing on a bone. and she usually hides it in a corner somewhere (afarid it would attract bugs or rotten given her problems)
I do sometimes buy dental treats also pig ears and such for my dog but i dont know if they are good, and if i should give it to them everyday. (with all the preservative and other unknown chemicals) |

IMO, one pig ear(or rawhide) is too much to be giving to your dog. But, my dog also has seizures and I would never willing put those nasty chemicals and preservatives in her body.
Personally, I LOVE raw bones. Not only are they healthy for your dog, they will clean better than any other doggy dental treat! You'll find that raw bones are messy. I'd suggest feeding them in a crate. The crate is easier to clean than your carpet! Although they can be messy your dog will quickly finish off all of the meat. After the meat is devoured raw bones are only as messy, if not less, than your average pig ear. |

I give my dogs raw bones to chew on. I like large knuckle bones. Their too big too swallow. Though there is the risk of cracking teeth, but I've never had a problem with that.
I don't like rawhides or pig's ears or what not. They tend to gag my dogs, plus the chemicals on/in them aren't good for teeth. Dogs are designed to digest meat, they're descendants from wolves. =) Plus they are awesome for cleaning teeth. I try to give my dogs raw bones as often as possible to keep clean teeth. Plus I know what's in them/on them.. No preservatives or nasty chemicals that I don't know about. =) |

raw bones are great for recreational chewing. the first couple of times your dog gets a fresh bone they might have some problems with diarrhea because the marrow is very rich, but they'll get used to it and that problem will disappear.
i give either marrow bones or knuckle bones. yes, dogs can and do break teeth on them depending on how aggressive a chewer your dog is. i've not had any problems yet and it's a risk i'm willing to take right now with these dogs. the meat isn't much of an issue. i give fresh bones in their crates the first time but it doesn't take long for them to clean off the meat and then they're allowed to have them out anywhere. |
