Before you get your puppy, I recommend you read up and learn something about puppies and dogs first. You can also talk with your vet and get first hand information about maintaining the health of your dog.
There's a lot of info online about nutrition, potty/crate training, obedience, clicker training if that is the way you want to go. I think it's great. It's always wise to arm yourself with as much knowledge as you can before getting a pup. That is the best thing we can do for our pups. Here's a helpful site about dog foods: http://www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=comp-wiz Here's one that will have just about anything you want to know....excellent advice and information, including puppy information: http://www.uwsp.edu/psych/dog/dog.htm Carrie |

if your dog is coming from a breeder, this is definitely somethign to ask them - they SHOULD have started vaccinating and treating for worms already. fleas are typically not a problem for young animals that come from clean environments - however, depending on what flea product you use will be the youngest age it can be used on - would range frmo 6 weeks to 12 weeks on average. dogs shouldnt be leaving before 8-9 weeks for most breeds, and by then most breeders have wormed the dog once and started one vaccine.

I always did deworming and 1st shots at 7 and a half weeks. Then I read some place better to wait till 10-11 weeks before you do the first set of shots...

The breeder we bought Bailey from gave her her first shot and de-worming. They would have given her all of her shots for free but we decided to go to the vet for the rest of them instead. She was 8 weeks old when we brought her home. We got the rest of her shots once a month until she was done.
