How old is the puppy? It really depends on what stage of parvo the pup was at when it was discovered. Puppies do not do well with Parvo and the chances are not the greatest of your puppy pulling through but that doesn't mean it can't happen, many pups with Parvo are able to pull through so never lose hope!
I can't tell you really what to expect since I'm not sure what stage the pup is at but typically the pup will become very dehydrated, lots of loose stool, vomit often and refusal to eat. The very best of luck with your pup and I hope things work out. |

Thanks for your wishes. She is 8 1/2 weeks old and we took her to the vet within 12 hours of showing symptoms. She had had only 2 dry heaves and about 3 runny poops. She was not yet dehydrated but very lethargic and she had eaten very little the past 12 hours. Our hopes are up but, so far our little "heinz 57" (she is a havanesexbichonxshih tsu) will have cost us a dear penny. I hope she lives.......

Poor little thing.
I really do hope she pulls through but she is far from over the worst of it, that still is to come but I'm glad you already have her at the vets and I'm sure they'll do everything they can for her. Best wishes. |

we just went through this with my puppie Gunner (posted a few weeks ago) and he made it through but we almost put him down because of the high cost. He spent i think 6 days in the hospital and never really got better untill the last day when he rapidly recovered. It took about a week for him to get back to normal and he had to gain back a lot of his weight (he lost 2 of his 7 pounds). He is now a little monster, chewing on everything (bite through my mouse chord and a headset chord but we fixed them) and up to about 11 pounds i think. Just keep with it and hopefully your dog should get better. I know it is really hard because it just never seams like they are getting any better but once they start getting better they are back to normal very quickly. If u have any questions reply and ask.

I hope she comes out of it, parvo is a rough illness. As said above, you'll have to do a VERY thorough cleaning of your house, yard, bedding, everything, with bleach before you bring her home.
Parvo is very touch and go...the supportive therapy they are giving your pup is the best that can be done. Keeping her hydrated is so very important. It sounds like you got her to the vet fairly quickly, that's a good thing...but parvo is a hard illness to predict. Sending good thoughts your way! |

My dachshund Bailey got parvo after she got her first puppy parvo vaccination. I took her in because of watery stools and being lethargic. She was tested for Parvo and was immediately put on an IV and meds. For the first 3 days that I went to visit her she acted all happy when she saw me and seemed to be doing better. Then all of a sudden she started throwing up every hour and got much worse to the point where she didn't even pick her head up to great me. This lasted for two days and I thought she wasn't going to make it. On the 6th day I came to hold her and she wagged her tail when she saw me and licked my hand. On the 7th day she was sitting up and moving around and on the 8th day she took a drink of water and played with her food. The next day she was eating and drinking and got to come home. It is such a fast disease and like it was said earlier they go down fast but they recover fast. Go to visit your pup and hold and pet her every day. 8 weeks is so young but having her at the vet where they can care for her is the best thing you can do. Money didn't matter one bit to me during this scarey time, I just wanted my pup home and healthy. My thoughts and prayers are with both of you and your pups during this scarey time.

Wrinkles In The Way

I work in an animal hospital and believe it or not we see many puppies with parvo and I have been there 2 yrs and NOT one has died from it yet--BUT that doesnt mean it does not happen--with good care your chances go up that the pup will pull through--Good luck and I hope all the pups make it-
