Lucy was stung by a bee yesterday, and did not have a reaction (thankfully!). When I took her out for a walk last night she was fine for the first few minutes, then the leash touched her hindquarters where the bee stung her, and she got scared, ran to be and hid between my legs, and was shaking. I checked her leg, she didn't react when I applied pressure, so I made her continue with the walk. She was a little freaked at first, but got over it. Then today, she ran up to meet her doggie friends and was whining - I'm assuming it is becuase of her leg.
So, my questions! Do you think the sting is sore? If so, what should I do about it?! She doesn't react when I touch the site or apply pressure. Is she always going to be sensitive to light touches on her hind quarters as a result of this incident?! I've seen dogs be stung before, and she reacted a lot more than most dogs - she cried for about two minutes after the sting, was shaking, and curled up on our bag of stuff at the park (which she NEVER does). She was freaked. Anyways, is she scarred or life?! |

It sounds like your little one is just a bit gun shy and will soon forget about the incident with time. You did the right thing by making her continue her walk and I'm betting she is just a tad sensitive back there right now but I'm betting more sensitive thought wise than anything, it's alot different when you know the person you love is touching you and something that your worried about might have snuck back around to get you again.

this sounds like my dog's behavior when we went camping. although i didn't see the bee, his behavior was similar to the time he was attacked by a hive of bees. the one thing he needs is a safe place to hide (thus curling up in your bag - sweet thing!) i had wrote about this in the 'strange scared behavior' thread.
is the spot where the bee stung red? if so, then it might be sore. when i took my dog to the vet, they didn't find a single red spot and he wasn't sore at all. it was just the freakiness of the experience that scares him (and probably the buzzing noise). if your dog is allergic, then he should be getting antihistamines right away. |

Thanks for all the advice. Yeah, I think she's just a little unnerved by the whole experience - but she's getting over it! The area's not red or swollen, and she didn't have an alergic reaction (which is good). All is good - hoping she gets over it, but I wouldn't mind if she is wary of bees from now on! Poor puppy! |
