Rockys Dr
I finally got Rocky into the doctor..... the doc came in answered all my questions, expressed his concerns and then took him in back for xrays and such... i sat fretting like a worried mother over her new born baby.. i was so nervous.. when i heard him squeak i figured they gave him a shot ...(come to find out when he sqeaked they had taken his temperature.......poor baby *insert small laugh here lol*) anyway, things came back how i expected. he has collapsing trachea, but no heart problems. i also had him tested for heart worm and he is negative for that and all other lyme and tick and all that crappy stuff diseases. he got all of his heart worm medicine... but the final bill came to $262 and some cents, and i couldnt afford the other medicine suggessted for him.. the Dr says the medicine might not even help him but it would be a pill for the rest of his life.. they only cost $13 a month which is over $150 a year... which isnt bad at all... i just cant afford it right now.... it was a big shock to my check book to go from $370 to $28 in one day (Dr plus car insurance) anyway...... this whole post started out about that Rocky is doing ok... really all i can do for his throat is keep his weight down and keep him calm.... some day if it gets worse to get the medicine, but since he isnt suffering 24 hours a day the doc thinks we should wait on those medicines... so yay! all my worrying and all that money and he is going to be ok! its nothing too serious, just something i already thought. oh yea and he has some very small kidney stones, but they shouldnt bother him and we dont need to do anything about them right now.
just thought id share the semi good news ![]() |

Stardust its great that your mind was set an ease and ohh poor Rocky, getting your temp taken like that, doesnt sound so pleasant so l dont blame him for squeeling, wonder how those vets would like something cold put up their, well bottoms.
That doesnt sound like to bad a price either for all that to be done, and sounds like you have a good vet, which is always a relief, at least they informed you about it all. Big hugs for Rocky the little champ. |

Hi Stardust,
Just wanted you to know that I feel your pain!! We just had to have a growth on his eyelid and enlarged lymph node removed from our Nick. Especially distressing because he is just over a year old. I almost lost it when I picked him up at the vet after surgery - he looked just horrible - half his face shaved and the area around his eye so inflamed he was almost unrecognizable. It took a (very long) week before he started to look a bit better, but then the pace of his recovery began to accelerate considerably. We just got the stitches out last Friday, and he is healing much better than we could have hoped. The surgery, and some additional xrays on his leg to check a concern that we had about his gait when he was running, came to a total of $636.oo - which makes me want to get more info on pet insurance!! The good news is that the lab work and xrays showed no signs of any problems, I'm sure you know what a relief that was. Good luck with your buddy, j |

I'm glad to hear he will be ok. There really isn't much that can be done for the trachea except never lead the dog around with collar and leash. Get a harness instead. In fact ALL small dogs should never be led by a collar because of their small tracheas.

Stardust,
I defintely feel your pain. Riley had parvo which when all was said in done was over 600 dollars, and just this Sunday Libby went in to Anaphylatic shock, and rang up a nice bill of about 530 dollars.... I am glad that Rocky is going to be okay, on the note of a harness, take some time and look around, there are types that are better to wear with trachea problems, but definetely don't walk with a collar as Calgal expressed. Good Luck! |
