? on Frontline Plus

How long after the first application should you see results when using Frontline Plus?

http://frontline.us.merial.com/products/sub8_faq.asp

We had a rep from merial come to my work and do a seminar on FL plus and it was so interesting to see how it works. It is really a great product.

THanks that is very informative! That is why I'm seeing more fleas on her. It's working..lol. I guess she was more infested than I had realized.

From reading the info from the Frontline website I know I won't be using it again. First off it doesn't actually stop the fleas or ticks from jumping on the animals or biting the animal. The fleas have 18 and the ticks 48 whole hours to chomp away. This is particularly bothersome when it comes to ticks. It only takes an infected tick 36 hours to transmit the bacteria that causes Lyme disease. Second, if a flea older than the 24 hours mark jumps on the dogs it could lay eggs later in your home when it jumps off before it dies from the poison.

I can see how after months (6-12) of use and if you never let you dog go anywhere they could possible pick up fleas you may prevent itchiness and scratching. But from the info they listed I do not see how there could be any short term or immmeadiate results or even long lasting one if you ever take the animal anywhere it can "meet" new fleas

My dogs have been on FLP since they were puppies. Neither have EVER had fleas. I've never seen ONE flea or tick on them. NEVER.

While that my be the case the product information does not say as such. In addition, my dogs have never been on any topical or ingested flea medication and I have never had one flea on them either. And I lived on a tropical island and currently live in the Souther US both are places where fleas are endemic.

Well....to each their own. I have had one experience with fleas. Sage had them as a kitten when we adopted her. We couldn't use any shampoos on her since she was only 7 weeks old (before we had the dogs). I had to brush them out of her fur with a flea comb. We had to treat the rugs and couch, etc.

All I know is I'll do anything to prevent fleas in this house again.

i use frontline religiously on my dog for the past 4 years. i have found ticks on him (most do jump off after a couple days) and one flea that lived in his belly area. i wonder if frontline is not effective there. my vet is ecstatic about its uses and i think this is the best of all the pesticides out there. if i know of a better alternative, i would definitely switch though.

Lucy, it's amazing that your dog is flea free in the areas you lived. how do you account for it and do you use anything else?

We've switched ours to K9 Advantix, and it seems to work great!

"K9 Advantix is a once a month topical application used for the prevention and treatment of fleas, mosquitoes and ticks including deer ticks (the major carrier of Lyme disease), American dog ticks, Brown dog ticks and lone star ticks. K9 Advantix Kills 98-100% Of Fleas Within 12 Hours. K9 Advantix Repels And Kills Mosquitoes. K9 Advantix is for use on dogs and puppies 7 weeks of age and older. Do Not Use On Cats."

We've been using this for almost 2 years, and no signs of fleas and ticks, and the mosquitos don't seem to bother the dogs (which says a lot, since it seems to be Iowa's state bird!!)

I atribute it to a couple of things. First, my dog (only one since our Duncan got lost) is and has been on a raw diet of meat, bones and offal. By keeping grains and other carbohydrates out of her diet she does not have the yeasty, doggy smell that many dogs have and what I believe attracts fleas. I beleive the same occurs with cats who are fed a non-carnivorous diet. Secondly, I regularly us food grade DE on my yard, in my carpets. I also apply topically it to myself and my dogs when we go for hikes or walks in areas where we are likely to encounter fleas and ticks. Third, I use homemade herbal application that repels pests that are spritzed on.

These things have worked for me and it is a good thing. I am a mosquito and flea magnet. If there is one within a half mile radius they smell me and think buffett. They will bite me thru any and every insect repelant I have tried thru out my life. With the use of DE and the herbal application I remain bite free as well

We actually adopted Lucy while on the island so that was not a problem and since Cayman Islands is a rabies free country there is no quartine to get back in to the US.

If we were to go back to the Cayman Islands (or most EU countries) as long as they have at least six month old blood rabies titer (if over 6 months then vaccine record is needed) and a microchip and a health cert not more than 24 hours old and it is not problem. No quarentine or anything. If the titer is less than 6 months old they reserve the right to quarentine until that 6 months has passed

Kota started her Frontline Sept. 15th. It's now Oct and she still has some flea's. Though it's not as bad as before. Perhaps I should switch to Advantix or give it more time?
