Yeast Infection - Ears
Anyone know of or use any sort of dietary supplement that helps a bit in deterring yeast infections in a dog's ear? Oscar had it once, treated it, it never came back. When I got Bentley in June, he came to me with a yeast infection.. treated that, did great.. but today, I notice he has a very irritated ear again, I am almost totally positive it's the same thing. Again. Treating it isn't a problem, I'm all set in the way of medicine. I'm just curious if anyone has an idea on PREVENTING them. I do clean them regularly.
Any ideas? |

Duke gets them all the time, vet says its from swimming all the time. Your pugs have a kiddy poor right? Maybe the moisture is causing it. The only thing that worked for us was a drying solution that we have to put in his ears everytime he swims.

When I was a teenager we lived in Carthage, Missouri for a summer. I am getting flashbacks of the horrible stickiness... of taking a shower and feeling like I'm sweating in the shower... ugh. I'd forgotten that LOL. Remember fleas really bad, and ticks. Here in Nevada, the humidity is almost always just in the teens.. 13 to 17 percent when I've bothered to check. Missouri is such a pretty state, but I couldn't live there. My pugs would be miserable.

Bonnie, my Lab use to get them all the time where I use to live. I think it's less humid here and less rain and she hasn't had one since I moved to Idaho. But she had to get an RX called Ottomax. It worked well, but was expensive. The vet told me when the ears are healed, not red, sore or irritated, that vinigar and water swabbed in them to clean would help keep the yeast down. If they're inflamed, DON'T use vinigar! I never ended up using it so I don't know first hand.
