Hi, can anyone help shed some light on Cholangical Hepitatis. My mini schnauzer was diognosed with it and I can't seem to find any info.. I am having a hard time getting her to eat, she is very particular in what she will take, one day it's some of this and other day's it's some of that! Any suggestions?

Hmm, I can't find it...

I also checked around and there isn't much info on the internet...

My vet has a HUGE reference book on almost every disease that dogs can get, I usually ask him if I can look in it if I want to know something..

Maybe your vet has a book like that, or you could order one over the internet (They're pricey.. but i haven't seen any on Ebay as of recently)

Sorry I can't be of more help!

PS -- What are you currently feeding her?

PPS -- Welcome to the boards!

Geeze, There is NOTHING on the internet about this disease! There is tons about infectious canine hepatitis. Are the symptoms the same?

Thanx for the help all, if anyone should come up with anything please keep me posted..She was raised on Iams Mini Chunks. Then about a year ago we had to switch her to U/D Diet from Science Diet as she had delevolped bladder stones and had to have them surgically removed. Symptoms are different from infectious hepatitis. We wouldn't have known anything was up if we hadn't done routine bloodwork (I do full panels on my older dogs as part of there yearly xams just to make sure all is well inside before trouble hits with no recourse.) She had elavated liver values and was to be retested in a month to see if they maybe went down on their own as sometimes the liver detoxifies itself. Nope not the case, values worse and she had started to vomit occasionally. She was then put on TONS of antibiotics and liver detoxifiers..her appitite was not good up to this point and then I'm guessing partially because of the meds her appitite just left. She is very active, very alert, all functions normal, can't say she vomits after I have managed to get something into her, she will vomit every so often.... I just couldn't and still can't get her to eat anything substantial... Well this lead to a liver biopsy and the results scarry..enlarged and irregular liver, gall bladder diulated and distended, right kidney didn't look so good and she has developed small stones again in her bladder.. What was the food for?? I had also been having her urine tested along the way (vet recomended) to make sure these stones were not developing again and all test came back o.k.??... Anyway liver culture sent to lab, culture reveiled bacteria in liver, strep? and 2 other coli's? She is now on Clavamox and pepcid a/c and urosyl and metronidazal. From what I could gather from net..ect....is Cholangical Hepatitis is just a fancy term for ENLARGED LIVER! The real problem is the bacteria in her liver that we need to dispose of. How she ever came up with this is a mystery as I have 5 mini's and Thank-God the other 4 are just fine! So this is not contagious either... I am praying the meds will kill these bacteria's and as that happens her appitite will slowly come back. Any good recipes in the mean time?? last night it was roastbeef- gotta love them!!! Great to have found globalpaw...and thanx for the welcome.. Moonstar and family!

Wink

Thank-you so much for the help, I looked and looked and looked. I have to admit I'm still abit confussed about it but the more info I have the more I think I am understanding? LOL... Today turned into a good day she had an upset this A.M. but then managed to hold down her meds and some food, liverwurst-dog cookies-some bologna-van. ice cream-oh yea and some linguine w/sauce and bread and butter we were having for dinner. I guess begging has no limits!!! Thanx again, wish us luck- Debbie
