Perhaps he has a kidney infection?

I've posted about my puppy having potty training regression before. I am beginning to wonder if there is something else going on?

I'll cut to the chase. Mocha is 5 months old and did come from a home where all dogs were allowed to just go anywhere basically....there was a room in the house where there was newspaper, but the whole house reeked of urine.

Anyway, I've had him for 2 months, he is crate trained. This last Sunday he basically pottied in the house all day despite being let out repeatedly during the day. He has done well on his potty training before.

This evening I let him out and he peed for a long time. Then I let him out again 5 minutes later and he pooped. I thought he was safe. Well, in a span of 1 hour, he went into the bedroom and peed (A LOT) on the doggie bed that he shares with the older dog. He likes to nap on that bed during the day. I don't know if he was marking or what he was doing, but there was copious amounts of pee....so much so that it soaked the bed and down into the carpet.

I let him out again and he peed again.......and that was hour #2. Does this puppy have a problem? Someone mentioned that perhaps he has a kidney or bladder infection. I'm wondering. I'm just basically frustrated at his regression in his potty training.

Pups will at times regress when it comes to potty training but if your concerned that something else may be going on then the best advice I can give you is to contact your veterinarian. Only he or she can tell you for sure if your pup has something else going on.

Well, I don't know if it's a kidney infection, but he sure is regressing big time. I spent hours cleaning the laundry room and even used cleaners on the floor etc. and this evening I walked into the room and stepped into a puddle of pee. Mocha has never peed there before, but he sure did tonight.

Also, I have put him in a small bathroom instead of just in his crate to give him more room and today when I got home, he peed on the floor....and has not peed in his crate for over 2 months.

I am getting a bit frustrated and just puzzled as to why he is regressing. He is getting older and should be getting better, not worse.

To make matters worse, Hurricane Rita is headed our way and we're not in any danger of anything but just lots of wind and rain....so his potty training is really going to be screwed up this weekend as it will be raining all weekend and I don't know where he is going to go!

I bought some piddle pads and am going to try and use them in the garage during the rainstorm and hopefully it will be okay.

I sure hope this will go better soon. I'm so at my wits' end!!!!
