Dog kennel and Fleas
I am getting ready to drop off my dog at a kennel tomorrow. I totally forgot about the possibility of him coming back with fleas, I am a bit worried because he does not have any right now. What can I do to prevent him from getting fleas while at the kennel? and if he does come back with them what is the best way to get rid of them FAST?

IMO your dog should be on either frontline or advantage anyways, regardless of whether he is going to the kennel. Dogs with fleas are much more likely to get tape worms which occur when a dog eats a host flea. Also, ticks carry limes disease, which is not a pleasant disease for dogs to get. We had an elderly dog who developed limes disease and it was heart breaking to watch him suffer.
Also, your dog can pick up fleas/ticks from walking outside into the back yard. |

How long will your dog be in the kennel? Maybe spray him really good with an all natural flea repellent and stuff a pillowcase with cedar chips and sew the end shut so he can lay on it in the kennel. You can also dust the dog with an herbal flea repellent. Commercial formulas containing eucalptus powder are particularly useful. Work the repellent through the hair and into the skin. If he still has a flea or two when you pick him up, don't bring him into the house till he has had a bath in a natural flea control shampoo. Something that contains d-limonene. Use a flea comb to trap and kill fleas that are on him. Launder his bedding in hot, soapy water, and do this each week anyway.

Revolution is probably fine. If it is fairly expensive it means it is probably not the diluted type. I think I got a sample of revolution from a vet, I am using Frontline, so I didn't try it.

CA is not that lucky. We have them all over, and even though Lucy was on flea control she still got a tapeworms from some random flea she ate. ![]() |
