kleenex- the ultimate yummy

Is there anything in kleenex that is dangerous to dogs? Jasmine just thinks kleenex is the greatest yummy in the world, and once she gets one, she won't give it up for any treat in trade.

You might remember, a few weeks ago I got bit trying to get a kleenex from her, and have been working on drop and leave it alot since then. (but not with kleenex) and she has gotten really good at it.

Last night she grabbed a kleenex when i got up to answer the phone and I offered her a treat in trade, but non doing. That kleenex was hers and she was not giving it up.

She ended up swollowing it and then trying to get the treat I was going to trade her. Nope, I didn't give it to her.

When my husband came home I told him I was going to throw all the treats away and just use kleenex to train Jasmine as she thinks they are great!!!! LOL

I guess I will have to start doing leave it by putting a kleenex on the floor and keeping her on a short leash.

Anyway, it seems kleenex is fairly biodegradeable. Do you think if she continues to eat them from time to time they will hurt her?

Rexie thinks paper is a food group, and she isnt dead yet! She does leave it when told to though (spits out wads of paper that she has been chewing on all day, gross).

I dont know the answer to your question, but I do know dogs are absurd creatures.

I can't imagine that Kleenex would be too unhealthy for a strong dog... I mean, it sort of shreds when it gets wet, so...

But maybe keep them up out of her reach? And don't get the kind with lotion, LOL.

sparky loves kleenex and toilet paper. i had to 'dog-prove' all my waste paper baskets. still, never leave a sheet of kleenex around, it disappears just like that.

Joules loves them too! She sneaks them when we aren't home and leaves a nice mess for mommy to clean up!

decided to practice leave it tonight with paper.
First we started leave it with treats. She did great!!! Switched to putting an envelope on the floor, leave it suddenly was extremely hard. After several attemps she left the envelope.

Tomorrow we will start with the envelope, and if lucky move to kleenex.

Who would have thought?!?!?!?

Both of mine as well, white soft paper of any kind attracts them to play, chew and eat.

My question is, if they eat TP then as they go they wipe at the same time?

i've actually heard that people will put treats in paper bags for dogs, and let them shred them open for fun. i'm sure paper products are harmless. i dont know if i'd let him shred snotty tissue though like my dog got into!!! dogs just love every bodily fluid. even the ones full of germs!!

Wow! My 7 month old lab, Wesley does the same thing!!!! Only lately he has decided that it is fun to jump up on the dining room table and steel things....the other day he took a whole box of kleenex(luckily we mananged to save some of it) And last night, he jumped up and took my mom's cup of diet coke...(could that hurt him)....he jumped up, grabed it, then ran all over the dining room spilling it all over the carpet and then my sister ran to take it away from him and he spilled the rest on her jeans....All of this took place in about 1 min. It was crazy!

This all reminds me of those candy "buttons" that came on rolls of paper... we used to rip them apart and eat whatever paper was still attached with no qualms, LOL.

Annie, your Lab sounds like a handful! Carrying a cup of Diet Coke around, now that's my kind of dog!

I haven't had a dog who ate paper, but my cat use to eat toilet paper all the time. LOL I can't tell you how many times I came home to find the entire roll of toilet paper off the roll and on the bathroom floor with the end of it chewed off and a very happy satisfied cat sleeping soundly on the lounge.
I don't think the paper will hurt your dog either.
Sounds like he's going well with the 'leave it' command so far though. Keep it up.

Cass.
