Anal glands
I've noticed that in the last 6 months or so my 2 dogs anal glands are acting up, not real bad, but they do tend to rub their butt on the floor more often and I have had to express them myslef a few times.
Do you thing changing their food will help at all? They are doing good on Solid Gold, but just yesterday I switched them to Evolve in hopes a food change will help. Thanks |

Little dogs are prone to impacted anal glands no matter what you feed them. That’s been my experience with it. I still have to express both my dogs glands once a month and they are on Evo which makes there stool quite firm.

what is "expressing the anal glands"? When Lucy was spayed they did this for her, and I was half asleep (the apointment was at 7:30am) and forgot to ask. I've forgotten every time I go in there!
Anyways, just wondering what it is and what purpose it serves. |

Changing the feed unfortuatly wont help. Dog in the wild never ised to have this problem as they were eatting prey they had caught and killed so when the bones passed through this would do the job but i do not recommend you feed bones.

how do I know if dog expressed it's own glands
My puppy had a bit of loose stool then scooted herself on the floor leaving a yellow/brown trail, does this mean she expressed her own glands? Also some people have said diet helps this problem other say it doesn't, but it make since to me if they have a high fiber diet that would help push stuff out. Any comments?
