How long after spay can she go for walks?

Lucy was spayed on Tuesday and she seems to be doing alright. I took her to the vet for a quick check on her suture to make sure it was alright. He said it looked a little red and to try to put some neosporin and a bandaid on it (which I can't really cuz she squirms and screams like I'm killing her and I don't have a second person to help me...). Anyways, they said I can take her to obedience classes on Sunday. My main question is: can I take her on walks right now? She needs to get some of her energy out, I feel bad for her. If I can take her on some walks, how long and how far should I go? Any suggestions from your past experiences?

Lucy is a 5mo beagle, just in case that has any part in the answer!

I'm no expert but my girl Talena just got spay last Friday and I think she is ready to walk this weekend. Fallon was fixed two weeks ago and already you can't hardly tell she was cut open.

How'd you keep them from running around too much?! Lucy has been pretty calm recently - I think she's hurting and feeling a little under the weather still. But, about twice a day she gets really hyper and jumps around the house after the cats. Tonight I finally leashed her cuz she was barking and jumping around the cats. She really wants to go out for a walk though and is missing her daily walks and visits with her doggy friends (which I think we will have to stay away from for a few weeks cuz they play rough and I don't want her to injure herself from the surgery!). I walk her a little to the mail box keeping her slow and picking her up if I think she's giong to get to excited.

It really depends on the dog in question. If the dog is up for it then there shouldn't be any reason not to go for a nice walk if they've had at least three or four days to heal and the incision looks ok. A bit different with the males as there is always the additional risk of swelling that should be watched but no reason why after a few days without complications for them not to go.

I wouldn't recommend going long distance, hiking or anything like that for a bit yet but a nice short walk shouldn't be a problem. jmo

I took kota for a ride with me a couple days after her surgery. I made sure she didn't jump around or over-exert herself and she got to do something different. I don't see why not as long as you can keep her away from other puppies who might rile her up. Keep an eye out on that redness. That's how kota's was before it got infected.

Thanks for the advice. I took her to the vet yesterday to check on the incision and he said that it looked like a minor reaction to the stuff under the skin to help with healing. So he recommended I put some neosporin and a bandaid on it, but not to worry too much. Lucy is on Antibiotics because of some skin infection on her stomach that the doctor noticed while she was being spayed, so those are helping prevent infection of the incision as well. He asked me to come back on Monday if the redness isn't better. This morning though it looked a lot better from yesterday. We went for a short easy walk this morning and it didn't really help with her energy level much! She spent the next hour after the walk jumping around after the cats. She seems fine really. I'm just keeping an eye on her.

Yeah, I'm not prepared to take her off leash to run around for about the 2 weeks. She looks and seems fine, but I don't want to take any chances and she can run really hard and play hard with the other dogs. I would hate to have the incision open and have to go back to the vet for more work. No, for now she has to deal with two daily walks and some inside play!
