I recently read an old thread on the greenies and was horrified! How does everyone feel about Nylabone edibles? I give them to my four month old ACD and he hasn't had a problem. I also give bully sticks (PEW) but he loves them. I don't do pig ears, rawhide, hooves, not even booda velvets those are supposed to be edible but they look like a hunk of plastic to me. What do you think?

Personally, I don't give my dogs nylabone edibles either for the very same reason as greenies.

I give my dogs chew things but to chew as it's good for the teeth. They have nylabones and large bully sticks. So far they can't eat the bully sitcks, but if they ever do then I wont give those to them either. I like to limit the snacks they do eat and what they are.

I find it very hard and confusing to decide what to give and what not to give
. I like the bully sticks because they don't seem to brake off into big pieces, and the nylabone edibles brake down well I give him things to chew only if I am there to supervise. I guess it depends on the dog. My parents have always given there dogs rawhide chips (I know CRINGE) but they have always done well with them. I thought that pig ears are supposed to brake down easy for the dogs to digest? I only give my dogs things that are made in the USA because some of the chew things for dogs are made out of the country and can be loaded with harmful chemicals. |

my dog loves the chewable nylabones, and he loves the edible ones. i am no longer giving him the edibles though because the CLEANS them off in about ten minutes. i dont want him filling up on treats, and it kinda hardens his poo (haha). plus, he's so little that those edible treats are too much of a treat. the vet said they may take up lots of room in his tummy, and make it hard for him to poo. so, i would just go for the chewing kind!

(I found this thread a little late, but oh well!)
I give Lucy the Nylabone greenies type edible thing. I find that they last longer and don't break into scarey peices. But, when they get to the size of my thumb, I take them away from her and toss them. She's had one now for two or three days and it is still safe and satisfying for her. She just doesn't eat them as fast as the greenies. I agree with Sheltimama too though, I also give lucy raw bones to chew on. She really enjoys those more than anything! But she's always a little hurt that she has to enjoy them outside! |
