Poor charlie had a bad night.
He vommitted quite a bit and even seemed to be heaving up some stomach acid. This morning he had some severe (explosive diarreha) which ened up in the house (yuk). And recently I took him out and it was a little bloody and just mucous. I am going to the vet. I just was hoping everyone could keep me in their prayers and thoughts. Thanks MC |

Oh my goodness, get him to the vet QUICKLY! It could be Parvo.
Of course he'll be in my thoughts... update when you can. |

So I went to the vet yesterday. He said there's two lines of diagnosis (1) Foreign body (2) Infection. At this point Charley was seriously dehydrated to so the doc. gave him a subcutaneous injection of water (Charley looked like Quasi Moto sp?). And some medicine to coat his stomach and some antibiotics witha set of instructions. Well after the vet Charley was feeling much more active afterwards and things were looking up. But last night he still had runny mucousy feces and this morning he puked up his medicine. I'm not quite sure what to do because its a holiday weekend. He's sleeping right now so hopefully a nap will do him good.
Can a puppy get parvo if he's been vaccinated for it? Moreoever he hasn't been in contact with any dogs within the past week let alone the past few days. Ugh I just don't know.....I'm seriously worried. ACK ![]() |

They should be able to run the Parvo test for you -- it only takes about twenty minutes to get the results. I think it is possible. The only reason I say this is that when Winston had his little vomitfest a few weeks ago, the emergency clinic wanted him tested regardless of his vax. If I were you, I would insist on a test, because Parvo needs to be treated immediately. If they suspect a foreign body, they can do X-rays to look for it. Is your vet not open this weekend? There might be a 24/7 emergency vet in your area. Good luck. I know about the Quasimodo thing. When Winston got fluids, he looked like a little snow crab with one big shoulder and arm. |

Oh my gosh I hope everything turns out OK.
I second all the advice on getting a Parvo test, I am actually surprised they did not run one while you were there. Good luck and please keep us updated. |

I had a dog who was over a year old and had already had two parvo shots, but she still got a mild case of it when I brought a puppy home that got sick and died at the Vets. the same night. It's a nasty, horrible disease and the younger they are the harder it is on them. I'd look for an emergency clinic to take him to.

Ask for a parvo test. I'm also shocked that they didn't test for it. Puppies, especially ones without the full series of shots, can get Parvo. My vet said that they like to do two shots after 12 weeks (or is it 15?) becuase they don't feel that one after that age is as effective as two. Suppossedly there's some research on this...Lucy ended up getting four shots - two under 12 weeks and two over 12 weeks. Even after her third shot they reccommened that she not go out in public.
By the way, YOU can bring parvo home on your shoes, even if your dog hasn't been out. All it takes is you walking through an infected area and then walking into your house. Bingo - they can pick up parvo. Good luck. Hope all is turning out okay. |

Hi guys...and thanks for all the advice. After everything that happened on Satuday things are greatly improved. As there has been no further deterioration in Charlie's condition...actually improvement I think we can rule out parvo at this point. I was cooking on sunday afternoon so I had to keep kicking Charlie out of the kitchen as he was required to fast until 4 pm. At that point I gave him his medicine, a little water, and finally some rice with yogurt and chicken stock. He loved it. And there was no vomitting!!! yaaaaaa!!!! or diareah. yaaaa!!!! This morning saw further progress. Although I must say trying to give a dog medicine via syringe is not easy at all.
. This morning he got the same meal which he enjoyed completely. And so far no vomitting or diarreha.Tommorow I will be taking a stool sample to the vet and having Charlie checked out for worms. Thanks again for the concern and the advice. I'll keep you updated. Tribal Rats: Charlie is 5 mos. |

Hello All:
The Charlie saga continues.....he's eating well but its increasingly difficults to give him his medicine. haha...he knows whats in the syringe now and he DOES NOT like it. He's also eating well lots of yogurt, rice, boiled chicken, and stock. I think he definately enjoys it more than his kibble. AND (dundundundun....) he pooped today!! It was a firm stool I'm proud to say although it was flourescent yellow. hahaha I guess u cant win 'em all. I'm still gonna phone the vet about that but I guess its better than diarreha. M.C |

This will be my final post on this matter (providing everything goes well). I'd like to report that charlie had his first solid, normal coloured stool today!!!! yaaaaaa! hahahhaahaha. I think people with small children, babies, and dogs can understand what pleasure normal poop can bring!
