Cold?

My concern is with Walter. It seems as though he has a cough. Now could this be just a cold? and if it is a cold should I take him to the vet? Will they give him medicine or will the just say "he will get over it like humans do" His stool doesn't seem to be any different. and other wise he acts just fine. He is just coughing a lot. It has turned colder here in Indiana so could it be do to that?

Hopefully it isn't kennel cough, or something stuck in his throat. I also hear there is some virus going around making dogs sick. My two just got over a bought with diarrhea and three of my friends dogs were either throwing up or had diarrhea or both. None of these dogs were together, or in any park or yard other than their own for about a month now. I've even talked to people who live on the east coast who are having the same problems. I just don't know what could be going around, but thankfully it only lasts around 3 days. If Walter shows no signs of getting better after two or three days I would get him checked at the Vet.

Dogs generally do not cough for no reason. How old is Walter? Sometimes a cough can be associated with heart problems. I'd get him checked out very soon.

I agree. You should make an appointment with your vet. It's not a cold because dogs don't get colds, but they do get canine influenza which is what Calgal referred to. It's highly contagious. Has your dog been boarded or around unfamiliar dogs recently?

I agree with everything that has already been said, take him in so they can get him started on meds and get rid of that nasty cough. Let us know what the vet has to say and best wishes for a quick recovery!

Walter hasn't been around any other dogs. We did get frank from a rescue and he just had his antibotics run out when we got him. but it was just recently that Walter started coughing.

At this point, only a Vet will be able to tell you what is going on with Walter. Let us know how he is and what it was, please! Hope he is okay.

I think a vet would be your best bet right now. Better to be safe then sorry.

Walter has Kennel Cough. All the signs point to it. Frank had it, and then it incubated in walter for a week or so, then he got it. He's already pretty much over it though.
