Fleas

Welll... I don't know how he did it, but Gizmo has fleas. In October! I thought the flea season was winding down! Poor guy, has been scratching for the past few days, I looked around and didn't see anything.

then he kept scratching, so I took a closer look and saw the fecal matter (to which I said "crap!" or something like that...lol) and called the vet.

He's on Advantage right now to get rid of the fleas. I'm vacuuming everything today (including toys and blankets) and washing stuff. Tomorrow I'm getting a steam cleaner from my friend and am going to clean the carpets, again.

Could he really have gotten them from the short time that he's outside? I live in a condo, so there's common grounds and whatever, and not all tennants take care of thier pets. Also, can you think of anything else I should be doing to combat the fleas?

le sigh.......

bleh. fleas are annoying. you might get a flea collar to put inside the vacuum cleaner. that'll help kill any you suck up.

Fleas

We had fleasand with two Golden Retrievers it was to say and expierence. We went to the vet and bought advantage then we went to the local Co-op and bought plain table salt. We vacummed everything first then we spread the salt around all the baseboards all the fleas were gone within a month tops. I spent a fortune before this and it was amazing how salt did it all. Vaseline or Dipity do hair products kill the lice on people too and now that is a another story. I have 6 daughters with long hair and spent another fortune on that as well.

This time of year is actually a time you'll notice the flea a lot more then usual. The weather is colder, the suckers get chilly and jump on the poor dogs. Advantage should take care of the fleas; just make sure to keep treatment for a couple months, to 4 months just to make sure to get rid of other newly hatched fleas.

Now I have the itchies!! *scratch, scratch*

Definitely cut up a flea collar and put some in your vacuum bag or canister. The little buggers will just jump right out of your vacuum over night and a flea collar will kill them in the bag. It's cheaper if you cut the collar up and only put one or two pieces in the vacuum and then put it outside over night so if some survive they can jump out outside. Two years ago we had fleas in our house really bad. It took a month to get rid of them. I sure know how you feel right now!

Also, you can put hot water out and they will jump off your dog into the water because they think its nice and wrm and they cant get out, that will help get a few of them.
