Hi,
my female lab is just finishing her heat season (she is a year old, so it's her first heat) and she has to pee ALL the time, could that be related to the heat? she had a urine infection when she was younger, but we treated it and the vet gave her a clean bill of health... any thoughts? thank you, HR |

i forgot to mention that it looks as if she can't hold peeing.
for example she was out for a walk for about 30 minutes, she kept stopping to pee, but there was no pee. then she came in the house and 10 minuted later peed on the floor. |

That sounds like a Urinary tract infection (either kidney or bladder). mI would get her to the vet ASAP for treatment

my little puppy Emma has been peeing a lot. and i was wondering if it could be a UTI. There is no blood in her urine but she goes out to pee all the time (which i'm happy she's going outside to do it) but instead of going reguraly with an average size pee she goes every 10 minutes while she's downstairs and it's small little pees.
is it her just being extra careful in not peeing in the house (she's only 10-11 weeks old) or is it something i should look into? |

I think she's just peeing a lot because she's young. Puppies can't hold their bladders for very long until you train them to control it, so any bit of urine is bound to make them "go". As long as she isn't straining, looks uncomfortable and not drinking excessive amounts of water she should be fine. If you still don't feel right, there's nothing wrong with contacting your vet to get a check up.

At her age, squatting constantly and not producing followed by unusual accidents when the dog was potty trained before is typically a sign of a UTI. I'd take her in, especially since she's just finishing up her first cycle. As for Emma, I agree with Icey but a vet check never hurts if you think there may be a problem.

That's what i figured too but when my roommate watched her for me the other afternoon she mentioned that and wondered if dogs have syptoms of UTIs like people do.
She drinks an average amount of water, i wouldn't say it's excessive though. She has no strain and when she squats something comes out...weather it's a tiny bit or a lot...so i guess that's good. She's doing so well with her potty training that i would rather she stop playing with Tahoe (the roommate's dog) and runs out to potty a little then not being able to hold it and having an accident in the house while she's playing...because that's the only time i've really noticed the excessive peeing.... thanks for the help! ![]() |

I agree. Peeing frequently, with scanty amounts is a sign of a UTI. Always check with the vet if in doubt. You don't want to have damage done or have her getting really ill from infection. Good luck.

I most definately agree with everyone on consulting with your vet. My only other advice that I can give you is that I used to petsit for an unspayed female that would constantly mark like a male dog sometime does whenever I would take her out for a walk. She may be just a little bit territorial.

Consult with vet. I would like to mention something. Dogs also urinate to mark. It seems a dog in heat or a puppy with another dogs scent around might want to leave scent markers. Dogs, I've read, have different kinds of pee for marking than they do for elimination. I would always recommend a vet check or vet phone call if you have any reason to think illness. Maybe the Lab can't pee due to UTI, or wants to leave more scent and has no urine left. I advocate spay and neutering if you aren't going to breed. I hope your dogs are well.
