I've learned to take bumps a lot more seriously, that's for sure. Also, my vet explained, which coincided with what I had already read, that, they shouldn't be aspirated, just removed. Aspiration can cause lots of very nasty things to occur, like the release of toxic chemicals, aggressive growth and distribution through the body.
I'll be thinking about Neva. When I used to groom, I always alerted owners to bumps and masses. It always surprised me how some people simply didn't care. It seems to me they are never too young, again, Alley is just 15 months old. And, these types of tumors don't have any definitive size, shape or pattern. Cancer is a nasty thing, and there is always hope. It's funny how people deal with stress. I've coddled my baby more than usual, if that is possible, and my husband has been calling her "Cancer Stick". Now before you all think he is a cruel man, my husband is a cancer survivor. He was given a 25% chance of recovery at the age of 20. He has been cancer free for 6 years, and cancer has never been an easy topic for him. To see the concern in his face for our little girl, and to know that humor is a defense mechanism, it just breaks and warms my heart all at once. Do you ever catch glimpses and think, "That's why I love you." Ok, sorry for the mushiness. That's how I deal with stress, that and anger, and everyone around here prefers the mushiness... ![]() |

About cancer in dogs...is it especially common in Boxers? I'll be extra aware of Lucy's body hearing this story. Very scarey. |

Boxers got the raw deal when it came to health problems. That's why the avg life span for a Boxer is 7 - 9 yrs of age. They age so very fast! |

Well, I've called the vet a few times, and they keep reminding me that they will call when they get the results, but, for who knows what reason, they didn't come in today! Sigh... So, I will try and be patient, although that is not easy for me.
I'll let you all know when I know, and thank you, Alley acts like absolutely nothing happened. I wish we could act like that! |

Well, although I am very sorry that your poor baby had to go through this, it is good not to be alone. My sister's dog had a mast cell tumor that was removed only 1 to 1 1/2 months ago...we are starting to feel another lump around the same area. Right now she is on medication, but if it continues to grow she will have to go back in for surgery. She may not be my dog, but I HATED seeing her so miserable and unhappy after the surgery. She was in so much pain... If she continues to get more tumors after this one is removed, we won't force her into surgery again.. It is just not fair to her. We will retire her, and wait untill her time is up.... I just hope that my sister makes her last few years(hopefully) a good few.

A-w-w-w Novel...this is so hard. I'm so sorry you, your hubby and Alley are having to go through this already. She is young indeed. It's the daw-gone prevelence of this which is also in Dobes and always in the back of my mind too. Also heart problems like Boxers. I'm sending you my heartfelt and deepest, caring thoughts and prayers. Do let us know how things come along. There is good hope though. Remember, lots and lots of tumors are completely removed and no more trouble. I think you're going to have lots of good years with her still. (((HUGS))) And do let us know.
PS....I love your mushiness. It shows what a nice person you are. You're so nice that all that can't be contained and it's oozing out of your pores. LOL. Gross, huh. It's going to be all right. |

For some reason the results still haven't come back!!! The vet promised prelims 24 hours after she sent them in... and STILL nothing 48 hours later. I don't know if she overextended herself or what, but, I'm trying to understand. I suppose a lab can't drop everything just for me, but, it would be alot easier if I knew. That's why I wanted it tested, so I'd know!! Jeepers!
Alley has been doing well. Yesterday her surgery area was a little weepy and red, today it looks great. I was worried because she pretty much refuses to stay still. Today we added a foster dog to our family, my husband says I'm compensating and trying to keep myself busy. I've never known myself to do anything different.. but, whatever! I will post a thread on Baby when I get some pics and such. She's another lab / rottie mix, and she walked into the family without a hitch. I can not believe this girl has not been adopted in the last two months since her surrender. But.. anyways, I leave that for her thread. |
