Alley has a Mast Cell Tumor
On Saturday my dh felt a lump on Alley's chest. We both immediately knew that she was going to the vet, we have always kept cancer in our minds when it comes to our beloved Boxer, we just hoped it wouldn't come so soon.
This morning, Monday, Alley went to go see our vet, who advised that it was a mass cell tumor. Tomorrow morning, Tuesday, we are having it removed. Alley is just a year and 4 months, and I was hoping we'd avoid cancer her entire life. Perhaps I am over reacting, but I don't imagine I would feel differently if I had a flesh and blood child with a possible cancerous mass. If you could, say a prayer for my little girl. I always hate to have her put under for any reason, and this will be her third time, 1)stitches to repaira cut as a puppy, 2)spay and now 3)tumor removal. I would also appreciate any advice, anecdotes, etc. I'll post pics tomorrow after she's gone through surgery too. These pics are poor, but hopefully they show what I'm talking about. It is the red bump above her left nipple. ![]() ![]() |

Thank you all...
I've been trying to read up as much as I can since this morning. I don't want my vet to do any overmedication as I believe that a healthy immune system is really the greatest weapon against reoccurence. From what I've read Boxers have the greatest likelihood of developing MCT, yet usually have the lowest grade, or least agressive types. I've also found that 50% of all tumors removed grow back, and the average age for development is between 7 - 9 years. My little girl is only 15 months. I've been reading up on blood tests to do along with the surgery and it seems that a complete blood work up should be done to show if the spleen or liver have been affected. Sigh... My little girl. I'll accept God's Will in this, but I have to voice my objection, this is my little girl. The one that sleeps with mom every night and my wonderful pocket Boxer that loves life and everything in it. I just thank God we found it early, and I'll just take it on faith that whatever happens from this point on is the way it's supposed to be. |

I'll definitly say a little prayer for Ally and yourself tonight before I go to sleep. Hopefully it was detected early enough and won't be too much of a problem. You must be a ball of nerves... If I was closer to you I'd definitly give you a hug!
Take care and keep us posted as to how she's doing. ![]() |
