Runny Eyes

My 4 month old Yorkie-Poo has runny eyes that I wipe out everyday. We have had her groomed and the long pieces of hair around her eyes cut so they don't cause runniness but I didn't really know of any other solution?

Any suggestions?

What kind of food do you feed her? I know that can directly affect that situation.

I replied somewhere's else this same exact question and I'm just going to copy paste what I wrote.

I would get your vet to check your dog's eyes to rule out Entropion (rolling of the eyelid), Distichiasis (eyelashes that grown inwards towards the eyes) or blocked tear ducts. All those can cause tearing and need to be taken care of surgically the latter being less evasive. My dog had all 3 conditions and now has nice tear free eyes. Also your dog may be suffering for air born allergies which can also cause your dog's eyes to tear up.

Little toy dogs are close to the ground and dust, pollen etc gets wafted up into their eyes much easier than taller dogs. This is quite common in toy breeds. Mine both have the same problem. If it's clear tears, then that's probably what it is. There's not much to do about it other than antihistamines, (in the case of allergy) which only your vet should advise you on. Are they red and irritated also? If it's that eyelid thing, I think you'd see that....eyelashes are poking right into the eye. That's not too common. I really suspect it's dust type irritation.

No her eyes aren't red or anything and what runs out is clear but sometime has brown gunk in it. It doesn't appear to bother her and when I get her groomed I get the hair around her eyes cut because it helps cut down on the runnyness too.

Yup..the brown gunk is probably dust and stuff from her fur just around the eyes. Jose gets that too...gross. Yeah, my dogs don't seem too bothered either. I just wipe them out with a kleenex or my finger.
