Ring worms

Hi everyone,

I've never actually dealt with ring worms from my own dog before. Anyone here? I'm treating it topically w/ Malaseb shampoo and some other oitment(can't remember the name) on the spacific area, which is his nose only about the size of a nickel. I wash my hands after cleaning the area and after any other contact with him. I'm keeping him in his crate, out of my house and away from all my other animals. Should that be enough to keep my other dogs, myself and my home clear of it?

Ringworm is a fungus, so it reproduces by spores. If the spores are in the environment, perhaps airborne, it could spread. I don't know what your vet suggested, but usually you need to treat the dog's personal items like bedding, brushes, collars, leashes, etc. So, in addition to isolating your dog, you should mop or vacuum the floors.

I had a cat with ringworm who gave it to my other cat who both gave it to ME! And it wasn't fun. It took along time to treat and was exspensive. Good luck to you! I hope you and your other animals don't get it.

Rexie just had ringworm. She was on malaseb shampoo and the spray for between baths, it worked wonderfully. Its gone, she is just going through the 2 weeks continued treatment to be 100% sure its gone. You could see improvement after the 1st bath. She hasnt been seperated from us or my other dog, but I did take her out of class. Its been 3 weeks and neither of us nor my other dog have shown signs of it.

That makes me feel some what better. I'm really not happy about this. I just brought him home so the only thing he had on him was his collar. I'll take it off him tonight. What should I soak it in? It's a black collar so bleach will discolor it.

It took about 3 weeks after for me to see signs of it. Think about it I was usuing my hands bathing her in short sleeves and got it on my arms. I still have a little white spot like scar from having it. Before that was even discovered I was holding her all the time (my cat). My kitty had it pretty bad. Maybe your dogs only had a few spots of it thats why you haven't gotten it. Kaz, are you sure your other dog doesn't have it? Because my other cat got it so it can be passed. It was awful

My other dog has MINIMAL hair! If there was something on him, I would see it a mile off! Rexie had ringworm once, but I didnt continue treatment after it went away, so it came back, so she has had it for a while, in that entire time, cooper hasnt had even one spot on him and he is just about bald. The vet told me once she started treatment, she would be very much not contagious (bath every 2nd day, spray 3 times a day).

I think rexie got it from the temp. doggy classroom we were in for her school. It was on her belly, so I think she got it while doing down stays. Oops!

I'm putting a topical medication on it, probably much like the spray. So is he not so contagious now you think???
When would it be ok to take him places?
It's VERY hard to keep 100% disinfected all the time. I can't change my clothing EVERy time after playing with him. I try not to touch too much after and wash with dish soap. I touch him with my bare hands...too hard not to. I guess if I get it, I get it. I can't put myself in a bubble. =)
