Question HELP!! Is there a difference in Bulldog hips verses other dog breed's hips???

Hello Everyone...I am new to the group and I am having a terrible problem and question that someone with english bulldog experience can help me. I have a 9 month old english bulldog that in just the past month has started limping, so I took her to the vet's office and they did an x-ray and said that it is hip displasica, but the breeders vet said that their are bulldog hip and other dog breed's hips. If that true?? I would think that a any breed of dog hips are pretty much the same. I need help and advice...I have a contract stating that if in the first year if something life threating happens they would give me a full refund and it seems that they are trying to wiggle their way out of giving me a refund with excusses with there being a difference in different breed's hip. Sorry I wrote such a long post but I am not very happy and I really need advice and help immediately because I am going to her vet's office tomorrow (Friday, Nov 4) Thank You for listening to my problems and I hope that someone can help me...

I am not sure exactly what your vet meant by this. Physiologically all dogs have the same components that go into making a hip, a ball and socket. Different breeds of dogs can be more prone to hip dysplasia, especially the larger breed dogs or the squat dogs that are heavy. I sure hope you are ablel to sort this out with the breeder as well as your vet. I would ask him to please go into more depth with his/her theory of different breeds having different hips. Like I said anatomically and physiologically dogs hips are the same. Good luck at the vets today!

It would be difficult at best to determine HD in a 9 month old Bulldog pup unless those hips are so bad that its obvious that the ball isn't even close to seated in the hip.

The structure of the Bulldog is not well known for it's hips, the overall build of the rear and hips make the very breed itself a bit on the dysplasic side. While it is true that most breeds are very much built the same, the Bulldog is without a doubt the exception to the rule including but not limited to its ability to even have things such as the liver and kidney located far from the "normal" places found within the body. Unless your dealing with a veterinarian who is well versed in the breed I would strongly suggest getting a second opinion from a vet that is.

If your not comfortable with the veterinarian used by the breeder I'm sure there are others in your area. If your unable to locate one I'd be happy to try and help you find one experienced in the breed.
