Shot side effect question

Allie is a little over 4 months old and weighs just above 3 lbs. Went to the vet yesterday and she rec'd her rabies vaccination and her 2nd Lyme disease shot.

Well she threw up 5 times last night and I'm wondering if it is a side effect of the shot. She seemed fine this morning, just didn't want anything to do with food.

Does it sound like a side effect from the shots?

It could possibly be, you should at least make contact with your vet to let them know and they may want to see her just to make sure she is ok now.

I agree with Crossfire. Many breeds of dogs are showing vaccination / immune reaction problems. Please phone your vet, and let them know.

Also, never immunize a dog if they are the least bit ill. I'm not saying Allie was ill, its just a reminder.

Rabies is most likely the problem, not the Lymes, and in the future, you may want to keep them all the shot separated by a few weeks, that way its easier on the puppy.

I called this morning and she has an appt at 530pm this evening.

The only other reaction to shots she has had was when she had her DHLPP booster and she was sore from that and the vet opted not to give her a vaccine ( I can't remember which one) because she said that the side effects would be too major if she didn't need the shot.

I just talked to my sister who checks on her during the day and she said Allie was acting relatively normal...just not eating.

The only thing she was being treated for at the time of the shot was a UTI.

The vet said she was dehydrated so they gave her some fluids, some anti nausea, and some Benadryl just in a case any swelling occured.

They are thinking it was a reaction to the rabies shot even though they said reactions are rare they do happen. And she is back to her normal, lovable self.

Glad you took her in and she is doing well. With any puppy throwing up or diareah causes them to become dehydrated very quickly which can be very dangerous. Please keep this in mind should she have any of those episoes.
