nuggets test results

Nugget got home last night after tests to check what type of cancer he had and how his existing problems are going so here is the latest on dear little nugget.

His heart is VERY enlarged, his tachea has collapsed a lot since last check up.
The cancer on his leg is not bone cancer but they also found a growth in his anus so have sent it off to pathology.

He also has liver problem most likely from long term med
Vet still says he could be ok without leg but I tend to think he would be much better to go to sleep without any more pain.

You know it breaks my heart to think how much he is love and no expense has been spared to try and save him. Yet in the end no matter how much you want a dog to get well sometimes it just cant happen.

Monday the vet gives his final opinion

That's so sad Linnie. I agree with you though, he seems to not have much quality of life. Best to let him go in peace than to have him hang on in pain or discomfort for who knows how long.

Such an upsetting decision to make. Let us know what the vet's final opinion is.

Cass.

I'm so sorry for Nugget, it seems like his poor little body is just tired.I think your right, Linnie, the kindest thing in the end would be to let him rest.
Hoping for the best!

i'm sorry linnie. it is so hard to be faced with answers that you don't want to hear and choices that nobody should have to make.

thinking of you and nugget.

I'm sorry as well. I think it's time to let Nugget go to the Rainbow Bridge, but as an outsider I know it's alot easier to say than to actually have to make the decision.

We had to do the same for Beni. I had hoped that he'd go on his own, but he kept hanging on, and his quality of life was totally gone. I cried for a week straight, but it was the right thing to do. I find we become selfish in our love, and don't want to let them go because it hurts us too much.

What a tough decision, but at least you know Nugget is well loved and being cared for, and that's something special.

Well the time has come for nuggets owner to do the hardest thing any of us dog lovers have to do. She is going to put Nugget to sleep on saturday. I tried to talk her into earlier as i believe he is in pain.

I went to see Nugget for myself today and his leg is hot and swollen and he finds it hard to walk.
The growth in his bowel was called hepa carcinoma.
the vet was all for taking his leg and giving him Chemo but I honestly think this would be a cruel thing to do to Nugget

I am so sorry to hear about Nugget. I know it's hard. People who have never had a dog would not understand how much love is bestowed upon them.
Thoughts and prayers to all of Nugget's family and friends.

Such a painful thing to go through. My thoughts are with you, your friend and family. I hope they can spend wonderful memorable moments with Nugget till the end.

Oh my, I'm so sorry..

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Oh I am so sorry. That is a beautiful, bitter-sweet poem. I think your friends would like that. Let them know our hearts go out to them and that their little pal will be at peace and I hope the same for you and your friends. Sometimes, it is suprising how we can find a measure of peace in doing this... when the dog's quality of life has so dwindled. I want so, that your friends will feel right in their decision. So sorry.

Thankyou all so much for being the wonderful people you are
The poem is so sad but so beautiful that I sent the link to my friend so that she can get strength to cope with this very sad situation.
Nugget is loved like a baby and if you could see him you would wonder how such an alert loving little bundle could be so sick.
I cant write anymore as I cant see the keyboard.
I really love you guys
