Not feeling well. Depressed?
Since yesterday evening, my 4 yr old bouvier mix has been acting weird. He won't come down from upstairs, only comes down to get something to drink, or go outside, then he goes right back up there. And is acting depressed.. I go up to make sure he's alright, and he doesn't even respond to me.. he might come over and sit beside me, but it like he isn't listening. I know he can't understand when I am tlaking to him, but he always shows some curiosity when I do tlak to him.. but now its nothing.
A dog that he has known since he was a little puppy was euthanized yesterday afternoon, could it be that somehow he is sensing that Oliver was put to sleep? Even though he hasn't seen Ollie in a year? I want to take him to the vet to get examined, but it will ahve to wait till the middle of next week, when we have a vehical and money to pay for it.. I am just scared for him is all. He is acting so different. |

If he hasn't seen the pup for a year, I don't think that's got anything to do with his behaviour. I do think you should see a vet (and am glad you feel the same
). He might be feeling a little ill. Let us know what the vet says. Cass. |

Honestly I doubt if he knows that the other dog was put to sleep if he hasn't been around him in over a year but may be sensing a possible sadness coming from you? Anything else change within the home? At any rate he sounds like he is pretty depressed or ill and should be seen as soon as possible before it gets out of hand.
Best wishes and please let us know how it goes. |

We moved about 2 weeks ago.. but he was fine with it.
I am definatly sad about my friends losing their dog, I've known him since they got him, as a puppy 15 years ago. But I am not in a depressive state or anything. He has perked up a little.. I took him for his last walk of the day and a drunk was coming after me, so I gave him a command to lunge at the guy, as I didn't feel safe at all.. and after that he is more... energetic. |

I was just going to mention taking him for a walk and make it a fun and exciting one. Sometimes I think dogs do get sad, and it's up to us to see to it they get back into the thick of things and make sure they know just how much we love them. I know old dogs sometimes want to just give up and die, (usually if they don't get a whole lot of attention anyway because they just lay around and sleep) and when they get like this it's up to us to get their lazy butts out of bed and go for some nice walks or drive to a park or beach. Just anything to keep them from wanting to check out of this world before they are really ready.

He is doing much better today. He is stil spending most of his time upstairs, but he is definaltly more happy.
Today was the Santa Claus Parade, so I took him and a friends dog along with my youngest sister and a cousin to see it.. He got ALOT of attention from people. Everyone thought he was so cute with his reindeer antlers on. He might even be in the paper. A lady came up to me and told me she was from the city paper, and asked if she could take a picture of my beautiful dog. |

I still wonder about his reluctance it seems to do his "usual" and wanting to stay upstairs. Could he possibly be a bit ouchy and not wanting to go up and down the stairs as often? That would explain his staying upstairs more.

But he comes down here when he is thirsty, to get a drink. Then if he doesn't want to go ot, he usually head right back up the stairs again. Maybe he's up there more because theres a door up there that leads to a hallway where there is another door that leads to another apartment, and he can hear the two guys that live there coming in and out. Maybe he thinks he's protecting us, by staying up there.. I ahve no idea =\ But he barks at them everytime he can hear them. |
