Clinical study supports effectiveness of new medicine for dogs

San Antonio Business Journal

Biomedical development firm Vital Needs International (VNI) has released the results of an anecdotal clinical study that provides an effective treatment for diarrhea in dogs.

Veterinarian Daniel Earl conducted the study at his clinic in San Antonio.

"A dog with diarrhea is a major inconvenience for pet owners," Earl says. "Most pet owners feel helpless in knowing what to do. This medicine is a great help."

Bismuth Sodium Tartrate is the scientific name for Clear Relief, a medication approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that is one of many products in VNI's portfolio of medical technologies. The product has several issued patents and others pending.

Approximately 25 percent of the 60 million dogs in the U.S. suffer at least one bout of diarrhea annually. Earl stressed that it is important to keep your pet on its regular feeding schedule. He noted that the holidays can be as difficult for pets as humans, especially those pets who tend to beg for human treats.

"For example, as humans sit around and watch football games and eat more at New Year's functions, so do their pets." Earl adds, "This can cause diarrhea in dogs."

San Antonio-based VNI is currently in the process of licensing its Bismuth Sodium Tartrate for both human and animal health and expects both versions of the product to be available to consumers in 2006.

I know of a cheap can of pumpkin that works very well, and all I have to do is go to the grocery store to get it. Fasting also works well, and from the sight of most dogs out there, they could use a fast once and while.
