What are lap dog kill zone issues? Do I have one of those?
Do you have Dish RBW? That's what I have and it's hit or miss whether I see his show...don't know when it's on. Is it on Animal Planet? I have seen it once or twice, I think this season. I like some things about him and others, I wonder about...haven't watched him enough to make a solid opinion. I didn't like how he just threw that dog who was afraid of dogs into the pack of 50 or so, of his....suddenly. The dog continued to look very uneasy. Ceasar acted as though, "Viola! There you have it. All is cured." Well, the dog clearly had the body language, IMO...of being very overwhelmed...head lowered, tail tucked, slinking away from the crowd of dogs. He never did look Ok with it. What's wrong with slowly getting a dog use to things that he's afraid of? Why does it have to be flooded? I know how his demeanor is....very calm and positive, gentle...very nice, but I didn't see that dog becoming comfortable with all those dogs. But, I guess he must do something right or he wouldn't be so popular. I'll have to try and see his show more. |

Just my term for the area small dogs claim when sitting in your lap, and guard against anyone who tries to enter that "zone". Do you have one of those? I don't know! LOL! I will say, during our get togethers, your Jose and Barrett's Lucy were the "biggest" dogs on the beach! What's that phrase, "It's not the size of the dog in a fight, but the size of the fight in the dog." Jose is your "biggest" dog. ![]() |

LOL. You know????I am not sure if I do have one of those. Sometimes there are three dogs on my lap. Sometimes Jose is on the bottom and Chuli is on half way on top of him, sagging so that 1/2 of her is on me and then there's Lyric....poor Lyric, he can only fit one of his body parts on me, take your pick.
I'm not sure if Jose is the biggest. Chulita almost seems too big for her britches. My boys are marshmellows compared to her. LOL. Thanks! I'll watch for the National Geographic channel. |

I don't have the National Geographic channel, though I have been told that I am not missing much at all. Apparently this guy has never heard the words "positive reinforcement". Lol

This dog had been frightened by some kids, and had inadvertantly had his fear reinforced by his owner. Cesar's own sons helped him, help this dog and his owner, who was obviously experienced herself in both agility and positive reinforcement clicker training, yet could not overcome her dog's fear of children. By the end of the episode, Hootie was jumping over the kids, and on his way back to being a top agility dog. It's now up to his owner to keep the him going in the right direction. ![]() |

<<<Interesting that he used both positive reinforcement and gentle desensitization methods in dealing with an agility dog named "Hootie", just last week. >>>>>
That really was an excellant program. Many of the books I read and the TV programs I watch about dog training are just so much fluff. Many times it's the same thing just using new words or gimmicks to sell a product. The shows I've seen of Mr. Milan honestly got my attention. His approach with "Hootie" was on the money. His instructions to his helpers "his children" were great. You could see the improvements as they happened. I know they edit TV shows, but the difference from the beginning to the end of that show was dramatic. He also supports a theory I've had for year: Postive reinforcement is, by far, the most expediant way to train a dog. Postive reinforcement becomes even more powerful when the dog realizes there are consequences to a bad behavior. DFrost |

I think one of the things I find most impressive about this man, is that he doesn't draw any lines in the sand or make any blanket statements or snap judgements regarding other training methods, philosophies, or trainers. He lives by example and results.
He is clearly interested in using any method or tool he has personally researched and found to be of benifit to both dog and owner. I have never found him to be brutal or wimpy. You never hear him bash another trainer based on "I heard this..." or point out that a dog they tried to help, did not make it. He takes the hardest cases, where everything else has failed, and does his best. His business is a family business, which includes his wife and sons. I understand one of his goals, is to have a large piece of land where he can expand his work with dogs. A man puts his treasure where his heart is. I wish more people would take the time to read about where Cesar has been, and how far he has come, before throwing eggs at him and his methods, and quoting "hearsay". Looking forward to tonights episode. |

let's work

Hi
Well I have to admit, this season i haven't found anything yet I wouldn't agree, too. and I had to laugh out loud, when he took care of "cinnamon" and her foodagression. i just saw myself on the TV. Since my little anka developed some foodagression, and we dealt with that before, and i let it slide *ashes on my head* and had to go over that today again. But instead of kneeling next to her i stood over her, but the rest was prettymuch the same. I thought thta was funny, right the same day... But I think this season is different, he explaines more and that helps alot of understanding him and his methods better. Had fun tonight.... thought it was kinda good. |

Yes, he is taking a more responsible approach this season and explaining himself in more detail.
The feral 1 year old, Sonny, who was afraid of people, was a walk in the park compared to Tia when I got her! She was terrified. Good example of a weiner dog with lap dog kill-zone "issues", too! If you can watch what he does, and see yourself in how he interacts with dogs, then you "get-it"! ![]() |

*Shakes her television set violently* Darn it!! Why won't you play the new Dog Whisperer episodes for me? Why?!!
*realises it's useless and hops the back fence so she can kick the fake cat on her neighbours verandah* (Hey...better than kicking a real one ). Glad to hear there are follow ups and more explanation this time around. I'm reeeeeeeally looking forward to seeing it now. I hope they'll show Cesar's new season when the 'ratings period' starts here. *sigh* Cass. |

Cass,
Have you tried downloading any episodes onto your computer from the National Geographic site? My computer would never be able to handle it, but your's might. I definately recommend this season's episodes over last season's. I can still start taping them for you. I was going to do this for you before, but then I heard Cesar's show was airring in Australia. It might just be a case of upgrading whatever cable or dish service you have in your area. I understand the programs from last season, will soon be available in a DVD package, too. |
