Winners Crowned At Akc National Agility Championship And Akc National Obedience
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 15, 2006
WINNERS CROWNED AT AKC NATIONAL AGILITY CHAMPIONSHIP AND AKC NATIONAL OBEDIENCE INVITATIONAL IN TAMPA -- Nation's Most Obedient and Athletic Dogs Compete for Top Honors in Canine Competitions -- New York, NY The winners of the January 2006 AKC National Obedience Invitational Championship and AKC National Agility Championship, both sponsored by the Iams Company, have been crowned in Tampa, Fla. Held January 13-15 at the Tampa Convention Center, the two events demonstrate the highest level of training and teamwork between dog and handler and are the culmination of thousands of trials held throughout the year. Dogs had to qualify at the highest levels of competition in order to compete. AKC National Obedience Invitational The 2006 AKC National Obedience Invitational Champion is OTCH Chaseabout's Dances With Lions UDX6 JH MX AXJ, a Labrador Retriever, owned by Renate Van Allen of Littleton, Colorado. Obedience trials test a dog's ability to perform a prescribed set of exercises on which it is scored. Nearly 150 of the nation's top Obedience Trial Champion (OTCH) pointed dogs in the country competed for the coveted title of AKC National Obedience Invitational Champion (NOC). AKC National Agility Championship Five agility dogs and their owners – one dog/handler team in each of the five height categories – were crowned champions at the event, which brought together nearly 700 talented dogs from across the country. Placing first in their height division (8", 12", 16", 20" and 24" respectively) were: MACH8 Pinpaps Jonquil of Skipnlena, a Papillon, owned by Robin Kletke of Woodinville, WA Strathspey Sapphire Rock-It AX, MXJ, a Shetland Sheepdog, owned by Barb Davis of Newman Lake, WA Agility and Obedience Results/2 MACH 3 Sliderock's Solar Power, an Australian Shepherd, owned by Elicia Calhoun of Woodlands, TX MACH Contact Point Thinks Quick HSAs, a Border Collie, owned by Kate Moureaux of Camarillo, CA. MACH4 Wildfires Precious Metal, a Border Collie, owned by Gerry Brown of Manor, TX. Agility events allow dogs to demonstrate their athleticism and versatility by racing against the clock and overcoming a challenging course of different obstacles. Success requires proper training, as it is a sport of physical skill, control, patience and – most importantly – teamwork between handler and dog. There are five different height categories, so dogs compete fairly according to size. The AKC National Agility Championship aired on Animal Planet (ET) on February 12, 2006, at 8:00 p.m. Both events were held in conjunction with the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, one of the top honors in the sport of purebred dogs. Sweeping that show by earning a grand total of more than $80,000, the title of AKC/Eukanuba National Champion and Best Bred-By-Exhibitor in Show (a competition for breeders to exhibit the dogs they own), was an Alaskan Malamute named CH Nanuke’s Snoklassic No Boundaries of Lockport, NY, owned/bred by Sandra D’Andrea (tonight’s handler), W. Corr and M. & P. Peel, commonly known as “Costello.” |

I never seem to find an agility show on TV. That is my favorite! That sounds like it was some competition. What fun!

Usually Animal Planet airs it at some point in time. I know I have last years taped, but that may have been the one around Westminster.
I wish Animal Planet would start showing more competitions and less psychic, foo foo stuff. But, unfortunately, I guess they play what the majority wants to watch. Ugh! Let's start our own broadcast channel. It can be all dogs, all the time. Flyball, Dock Jumping, Shows, Obedience, Field work, Schutzhund, etc... Each day in this state alone there's probably enough to fill a week's worth of programming. You'd just have to get there to film it... Hmm..... |
