Rottweiler survives being shot in the mouth by police officer
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A 160-pound Rottweiler is recovering after being shot in the mouth by a police officer.
The dog named Tanker got out of his yard Saturday. He and another rottweiler wandered around the corner and confronted two officers at a nearby police substation. Officer Lucio Andreozzi climbed on top of a cruiser to get away from the dogs. But Tanker jumped up, putting his front paws on the car. When he opened his mouth, Andreozzi fired. Tanker's owner, John Ribeiro, says he doesn't blame the officer, at 160 pounds Tanker is big enough to kill a person. The bullet passed through Tanker's tongue, broke into three pieces and lodged near his spine. Ribeiro says the dog is groggy from pain killers but okay. http://www.eyewitnessnewstv.com/Glob...18834&nav=F2DO |

So sad, poor guy. Hopefully it is an eye opener though, to make sure the yard is secure and checked for any potential exit spots for your dog. I have 2 rottweilers, and a brother living here who is known for not checking the gate is closed properly. It really doesn't take a minute to walk over and check before you let your dog out, and its a constant habit of mine. I also "scoop the poop" at least every 2 days and check for any digging spots and such. Something I have no problem doing to protect the safety of my dogs and the people outside of the yard. Even though my dogs are the biggest sucks, it would scare anyone to see them wandering loose. I know they are fine with anyone with me there, but loose, I couldn't guarentee they would be the same way in that circumstance. I feel for the owner, having your dog get shot is not a pleasant thing, but the officer probably wasn't to pleased about it either. Something that could have been easily avoided.
