A bullmastiff mauled and killed a little 7 yr. old boy earlier this weekend in Lunenburg, Massachusetts and of course the dog showed no signs of aggression ever before. The little boy was playing between his and his neighbors yard when the dog charged and attack him. What a horrible shame for this to happen and what is going on with all the bullmastiff's attacking lately? Everyone I had ever met has been such a layed back drooling slob. Just CRAZY!

Now they are saying that it was a Male English Mastiff that was 1 year old and weighed about 170lbs. They are having grief counselors at the school today for the friends and teachers of the little boy who also had a 10 and 13 year old brothers.

More Bullmastiff's attacking, or just more news coverage?
Perhaps the media is just trying to blame yet another breed of dog for the "dog bite epidemic". |

to be honest i would say it was the media clicking on to a "trend " of news articles again. It is always the way, you hear of one thing happening and then all of a sudden they have similar stories popping up all over the place.
Unfortunatly for the bullmastiff the image they have been given rubs off on people far too well and i know a lot of examples where people have bought them BECAUSE of that mean and moody attitude they are pretrayed to have. An example of this is a group of lads say about 17 year old are seen walking around my local area, you can often see them coaxing the poor dog and getting it all rilled up. Then the other day i seen the same group of lads and a girl walking towards them on the same side of thepavement, next thing the dog launches its self at the girls leg, ripped her jeans in two right the way up the leg while one of the dog owners mates came running over to film it on his mobile phone. To say my blood was boiling is a understatement and a half. I felt so sorry for that poor dog being treated as nothing more than crap and i would go as far to say abused. I blame the sick owners of these dogs for the rep they have, they should be the ones being put to sleep not the dogs! Sharon and Charlie |

. However, this was an English Mastiff and only a year old who never showed any signs of aggression, so was the dog abused? or was it bad genetics or enviroment? Who knows, but the dog could have been treated perfectly fine and some good people just got a bad dog, it does happen. So anyway the dog was immediately put to sleep and there is now one less child on earth. What a shame, poor kid . |

How sad that is.
Instead of the media sensationalizing one breed of dog or another, they ought to be senstionalizing some information by experts on how to treat dogs, how to train children and adults the safe and correct way to interact or greet dogs and how to NOT leave children unsupervised with dogs and how all people with dogs should be more responsible in keeping their dogs confined and not loose where they can get at children or anyone. They ought to be spreading and getting that information out to the public and stop putting the emphasis of danger... on one breed or another. |
