Local kennel fire kills 17 dogs including a dozen puppies
KTVO 3 (ADAIR COUNTY) An Adair County dog kennel fire killed 17 of the dogs.
Around 2:30 a.m. Monday, crews were called to the home of Melinda Humphrey on Crest Trail, just off Highway 3 southwest of Kirksville. Humphrey saw flames coming out of the double-wide-trailer-turned-dog kennel and unsuccessfully tried to put out the fire on her own. A family member says they believe the cause of the fire was a heat lamp, but fire officials say they'll never know for sure because damage to the kennel was too extensive. There were a total of 17 dogs killed in the blaze, 12 of them were puppies. The value of the canines is estimated between $6,000 and $8000. A few dozen dogs not kept in the kennel survived. |
