CBS Puggle Story

There was a story by CBS in late December about the new puggle trend (around the same time as the one on NBC). I never saw it before, but was extremly disappointed and haunted by the sight of at least 30+ dogs up for sale.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/...n1098998.shtml

I decided to file a complaint with them and this is what I wrote...

"I would like to file a complaint about you lack of journalistic integrity in relation to your article on "hybrid dogs". (Dec. 5, 2005) In this story you talk about them as a new fashion accessory, but had this been a new shoe that was being produced in a factory by 5 year olds you would have never done this story. Most of the "hybrid dogs" that are sold in pet stores, and in general, are being done so at the expense of their parents. These breeding dogs are kept in deplorable conditions, and their sole purpose is to produce as many puppies as possible for as little cost as possible.

If you had bothered to research the other half of this argument you could have helped put an end to a trend that is causing suffering on a level much greater then any sweatshop.

I leave you with the thought of hundreds of beagles and pugs locked in chicken wire cages no larger then a couple square feet w/ several other dogs, covered in open wounds, urine, and excrement, producing two litters a year, having little human interaction or exercise, very little medical treatment, and are then euthanized when they can no longer produce more offspring.

I will no longer be watching CBS and will be encouraging my family and friends to do the same."

Just thought I would share

Good letter!!! Knowing how people in big corporations think, they'll probably chalk you up to a "fanatic" or someone from PETA and toss it. On the flip side, they may stop and think about that story, and either do a follow-up, or another one on mills.

You made your voice heard....good job!!

Complain as much as you want! I don't care, it's not like I work for CBS or anything. mabye you should start a petition (just a suggestion). at least some people care about dogs/animals. shame on them(CBS)
