Dogs to get their day at work
The News-Press
National effort promotes pet adoptions By Mark Krzos There may be some unfamiliar faces when you arrive at work on Friday, June 23. Those faces will be of the canine kind. All across the United States thousands of dog owners will be bringing their pooches to work. "Take Your Dog To Work Day," now in its eighth year, is designed to show non-dog owners the joy that these pets bring — and to entice them to consider adopting a dog from a local shelter or breed rescue. "It's a national promotion," said Stephen Wright, spokesman for The Humane Society of Collier County. "They've been doing this for eight years, but this is the first year we're really promoting it." Wright said that "Take Your Dog To Work Day" is "a great idea and a way to liven up the workplace." "It gets people to be more friendly," he said. "We're just asking everyone to make sure it's OK with their boss first. We don't want anyone to get fired." Those without dogs don't have to be left out in the cold either, Wright said. The Humane Society of Collier County has plenty of dogs waiting to be adopted. For most dogs, the adoption fee is $75, and each dog adopted comes with a medical exam and testing, vaccinations, sterilization surgery, county license, ID microchip, 14-day health guarantee and a free three-month supply of heartworm preventative — a value of more than $300. |

as much as i love my puppers and as much fun as i'd have w/ them snuggling under my desk and taking walks at lunch,
i have NEVER liked this idea. the opening for bad things to happen is soooo much larger than the intended positive benefit to me. has anyone here ever participated or known someone who did? |
