Dog Fighting In South Florida Not Tolerated

(CBS4 News) POMPANO BEACH Broward Sheriff’s Office police on routine patrol in Pompano Beach last Sunday were unpleasantly surprised when they found a group of men cheering during a planned fight between two dogs.

On Sunday, June 11th shortly before 8 p.m., the BSO deputy was on routine patrol and conducted an area check of Charles Drew Elementary School when he spotted several people gathered in a circle at 951 Northwest 27th Avenue in Pompano Beach.

The deputy took a closer look and observed two Pit Bulls fighting and no one in the crowd trying to pull them apart.

Several of the group was able to escape police, but Brandon McNair and Tommy Neloms were not so lucky. According to police, a juvenile on-looker was able to identify the McNair and Neloms as being responsible for coordinating the fight.

Thursday, a BSO Abuse and Neglect detective arrested McNair near his home 2700 Northwest 9th Court on one count each of Fighting/Baiting Animals and Cruelty to Animals.

Neloms will face the same charges but was already in jail, arrested on Tuesday on unrelated drug charges. McNair and Neloms denied being involved in the dog fight.

Both dogs are in the care of the Coral Springs Animal Hospital.
