Nationals want sniffer dogs at regional nightclubs

The National party has called for regular police dog patrols at regional Victorian nightclubs to sniff out drug users.

Police used Melbourne sniffer dogs to detect drugs on about 40 people outside nightclubs and bars at Traralgon and Moe, in the south-east, last weekend.

The Nationals' youth affairs spokesman, North-west Province MP Damian Drum, has praised the police for taking sniffer dogs to country locations.

"What we're saying, the Nationals are saying, is that we need to have the dog squad out at least once a month into the major regional centres, visit the nightclubs, let the dogs do their work and certainly send the right messages out there to all our youth, that if they want to go to nightclubs, they've got to clean up their act," he said.
