Pets Pampered At New Kennel Resort In Clermont County

WCPO Channel 9

By Tanya O'Rourke

A new Tri-state business is trying to provide a year-round fun-fest for your dogs to enjoy while you're away from home.

Jim Pottebaum transformed seven and a half acres in Clermont County's Miami Township into a dog's dream, "Kennel Resorts," complete with pond and park.

"Dogs are pretty simple, like children. They like to run up and down hills, they like to run up and down our playset, they like to run through our tunnels and they like to dig holes. If you give them that, they're usually going to be pretty happy," said Jim Pottebaum, Kennel Resorts Owner.

A dog owner himself, Jim represents a growing trend of pet owners across the country not content to lock up their animals when they leave for work.

Instead, dogs are treated to a lot of playtime and personal attention and the occasional rub down for those who just want to relax.

Campers staying overnight are treated to amenities, by animal standards, that are pretty dog gone good.

Beds are complete with fleece blankets. Cabins, as they're called, offer an additional option: TVs. What's on? Animal Planet, of course.

"There are a lot of people that can't understand a facility like this. But people that are our customers do appreciate the quality that we put in," said Pottebaum.

To Pottebaum, quality also means webcams so that anxious owners can check in on their pets 24 hours a day. And while the place may seem extreme to some, Jim says it's the opinion of his clients that matters most.

"We love to have dogs that are wagging their tails as they come into the facility as well as leave the facility," he said.

So what does a camp for dogs cost?

A check of several Tri-state kennels that offer doggy day camp shows the price ranges between $20 and $25 a day.

Just like any resort, you can pamper your dog with extras, but at an additional cost.
