Consider adopting shelter, rescue dogs

Times Community News/Faquier Times Democrat

My name is Gracie Radigan and I am 12 years old.

I am writing about something that has been bothering me for a long time, and after reading the article in last week's paper about the puppies at Warrenton Pet Shop (Sick puppies: Local vet offers advice on how to purchase healthy dogs," the Democrat, July 5, 2006), I decided to write.

As a dog lover, it really makes me upset to see these sweet puppies sold like jewelry in a window.

About three years ago, we adopted a little dog from the Fauquier SPCA, and named him Charlie. He is loyal, sweet, and so adorable.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of dogs just like Charlie who are in need of a loving home.

And did you that now when you adopt a dog from the Fauquier SPCA, the $110 fee for the dog includes its spaying or neutering, distemper shot, bordetella, worming, heart worm test and a microchip?

If you are looking for a dog or a puppy, please consider a shelter, rescue or at least a reputable breeder. Here are some good places to start:

fauquierspca.com,

middleburghumane.com,

adoptculpeperpets.org

Exactly!! Education at a young age is the key, and I have a feeling she's going to do great things!

Gracie - way to go!! We adopted Cassy last year from the rescue! She is an awesome dog! People told us not to get a dog from the rescue because they have so many problems! Cassy has none, but she has a fantastic personality, great manners...and she appreciates her home and life!
