Gainesville canines get protective vests

GAINESVILLE - A member of the Gainesville police canine unit came personally Tuesday night to thank City Council and bullet proof vest donors for his new vest.

"Argus", a German Shepard, sat quietly while Police Chief Frank Hooper announced that donations had purchased two vests for the police dogs.

Hooper said the canine vests cost around sixteen hundred dollars and the dogs need them as much as the human officers.

Hooper said his department wants to buy two more vests so the department could use more donations.

"I think this is a great

tool we can use," Chief Hooper said.
"It will offer protection for our canines when we send them into a hazardous environment."
