Words can't express how sick that made me. A dog for shark bait, that is really sad but I guess not so shocking if you look at other things some people do. I can't see how they can stand to watch such a horrible thing like that.

The claim that live dogs (and cats) were being used as bait by shark fisherman on Réunion Island (a French-controlled territory just off the coast of Southern Africa in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar) started hitting the world press in August 2005 (the Sun printed it along with that photo) and picked up steam in early October 2005. It hasn't been proved or disproved, but all but animal rights activists remain skeptical. Interesting that this is surfacing again a year later.

I hope it is an urban legend and that poor dog got hooked accidentally. That kind of accidents frequently happen with humans -- hooks caught in hands and other body parts.

People are just that sick though. They don't always understand that killing anything -- including insects -- should be done humanely.

Although I'm sure the snope article is right and that this does happen on rare occasions, I've seen that photo several times now and I still think it's fake.

As for the real cases of this.

Shame on the fishermen.

Cass. I thought the same thing when I saw that photo. I've actually seen it on other websites, but it was for a totally different subject. *shrug* I'm sure it happens though!

My stomach dropped, I feel so sick right now. How could anyone do that?! I mean honestly! To see them thrash around in the water, I just couldn't do it! Forgive me for saying this but, people like that just need to fall off the face of this earth!

I bet that picture was just an accident, that could have well have been the dog getting into something it shouldn't have. Truthfully in a lot of countries where they have a serious dog problem it would not surprise me in the least if they killed dogs and used them for bait. I really bet this is just a story that has been blown out of proportion...

Eeven soo... its still sickening to use dogs as shark bait... especially if they just kill them for that purpose... and they shouldnt be shark fishing anyways... stupid people...
