DENVER - After a rough experience in Utah, a dog is hoping for a new home in Colorado.


Willy Butler is a 10-year-old Springer Spaniel recovering in Denver.

He is at the MaxFund No-Kill Animal Shelter.

A hiker found Willy in the Utah wilderness three weeks ago.

He was emaciated, wrapped tightly in a blanket and trapped beneath several heavy logs.

"If somebody hadn't walked by, there's no chance that this dog could have escaped," said Michael Wright, with the MaxFund shelter. "The dog would have just died there wrapped up in a blanket under a pile of wood."

Willy only weighed 28 pounds when he was found. An adult male Springer Spaniel usually weighs around 45 to 50 pounds.

Volunteers at the MaxFund shelter are hoping Willy will be fully recovered and available for adoption soon.

Authorities in Utah have not found the person who abandoned Willy.

He was featured on our local TV station this week. What a handsome guy! And can anyone tell me, what kind of person or what situation would ever warrant this kind of treatment to an older dog??? Just boggles my mind!! (he could be Cassy's dad!! She's from Utah!!)
