'07 not a great one for greyhounds so far :(

First, there was a tragic accident in which a hauler moving 30 greyhounds wrecked. The driver was killed as were 3 dogs who escaped and were struck by cars. 4 other escapees were recovered safe and sound within a couple days.

Then, there was another wreck involving a dog hauler in MO. 2 Greyhounds are still loose with winter weather moving in.

And then last Thursday there was a heater malfunction in a racing kennel that killed 23 dogs. The survivors are recuperating...some may be heading for adoption, but it looks like most of them are healthy and can still race.

So much tragedy in one week...it's just been heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers are with all the humans and hounds who's lives have been changed by all of these tragic events. And I'm praying that 2007 gets better.

All those incidences happening are terrible!

I hope the worst is over, and that the rest of the year will be trouble-free for greyhounds.

That's just tragic.

Those poor dogs. I hope, like Swiftwind, that the worst is over and that all the surviving greys from these terrible events are ok now.

Thats horrible thanks for posting it though i havent got many updates lately with how busy everyones been. I hope all of of them get back to racing condition or get adopted by great families. About the ones still lost do they think they will survive? I know if they are in racing condition that is very unlikely.

Update! The two lost greyhounds in MO have been recovered and are safe and sound!!!!!

Actually being in racing condition probably betters their chance of surviving. Racing dogs are in phenomenal shape and conditioning.

Oh i didnt mean they werent i just meant the snow and the low body fat wouldnt be a good mix. lol. I know they are in great shape i used to rescue and work with some Tampa kennels. Im so glad they were found

. Maybe this year will start to turn around.

Oh, duh, yeah...I didn't read that way, but you're right! Lean, mean running machines but not necessarily good for living in snow and ice!

lol yep ours freezes in FL in the winter mornings. And when i used to take the kennel dogs out at the adoption kennel i worked at we had to jacket all of them for going out lol.
