Unhappy Pit Bulls

I just want to vent and say I am really annoyed with the pit bulls being shown in a bad light by media. They are aggressive more than a lab or other breeds. But I really believe part of the problem is we have stupid and unresponsible owners who use them to fight and instill fear in them, like one of my neighboors has done. Does the media include the stories of pitts being chained up outside to the point collars need to be surgically removed? My friend at the shelter can vouch for that. I have walked my dog too many times to go by certain houses that leave their pitts in the cold and never do anything for them.

I have also gone to the park where the owner love their pitt and the pitts are wonderful. My ex boyfriend had one and my dog loved her and they would sleep in my room with us.

In the media it always seems the pit attacking comes from a bad neighborhood. My friends dog got attacked a few doors down. But we believe he is using the dog to fight. He leaves it outside, ignores it chained up night and day. The dog cowers near people. People can say what they want, but I've had my observations. Personally, if I were treated like some of these lower class trash treat their pitt, then I might bite a finger off too

I agree! Today when we were at the vet's for Gretchen's (mini schnauzer) shots a lady came in with a pitbull. I have already posted in another thread. The lady kicked the dog several times. When he came in he lunged at Gretchen with his hair standing up and growling. (She was not even barking at him) When they got into the reception area I could see when he had a wound on his neck from the choke collar. It is very sad that this poor dog has to live with this ignorant woman. I blame her for his behavior not the dog.

It is so sad that pit bulls get a bad repuatation, just because people fight them. Two of my friends have pit bulls and they're so sweet! I really don't think any breed of dog should have reputations, whether good or bad, because it all depends on how the dog was treated and raised. I have a golden retriever/lab mix, which are both dogs that are said to be sweet and good with other people and children. I don't know why, I think it's because her previous owner's never socialized her, but my dog is scared of other people and kids! If I'm walking her and she sees someone outside, even if it's just little kids playing, she gets scared and tries to run away. I almost lost her once while I was walking her because she saw a man outside and she started pulling and trying to run away. What I don't understand is how people can fight pit bulls and not even go to jail, just get fined. And if pit bulls that are trained to fight do get rescued, they're usually put to sleep because they try to bite people. My sister and her husband have a black lab mixed with something, they're not sure what, but when they first got him, their vet said he might be mixed with pit bull. They actually were about to give him away just because he MIGHT have pit bull in him, but then they decided to keep him. It's horrible that they get such a bad reputation.
