Well Iams is part of Procter and Gamble. You're going to be hard pressed to boycott everything they make or have their hands in. Check out all your toiletries, probably 80% are made by P&G

The videos have caused me to doubt a lot about both PETA and Iams...
If this is not true though, where on earth did that video come from? Those animals are somewhere out there going through all that pain and mistreatment...
All this controversy makes me squemish and I wonder if feeding our animals a raw diet is the only way to keep them safe.
I'd rather feed Ra home cooked meals than stress about what dog food company does what with animals and how to protect the thousands of tortured, maimed and lonely animals that are tested on daily.
This stuff just gives me the creeps.

Unless you strictly buy organic, cruelty-free meat (ie- expensive and not available at most local shops), you'll still be contributing to the tortured and lonely status of an animal. It's unfortunate but true.

Really good article Pondwader!! I'm really surprised that Iams and Science Diet are so low. Guess I'll be doing some shopping. I was using an entirely different set of criteria to pick food, but I like all the specifics in yours. Not just a generic "meat should be the 1st ingredient, bag should say nutritionally complete, etc."

Ashlie: Iams told me they rented space in a facility, and that the animals pictured were part of some other company's research project. They claim they would never harbour animals in such conditions. Hmmmm. But thinking about it...rented space? another company's animals? Sounds kind of like a load of crap, doesn't it?

That's my point!! I can by Pro-Plan in the grocery store. Never actually looked at it, because I just assumed it was comparable to Kibbles N Bits and whatever, but it rated really high!!?? And if you're basing on the standard 100 is an "A" or an ideal score, I would've expected Iams to rank a whole lot higher than 89 for the price! I've always believed I was going that extra mile for my dogs, to be sure to provide properly for them. By that scale, I'm not doing much better than feeding them fast food.

Are you mixing foods up? LOL Or am I just reading what you've written wrong?
Iams (89) scored quite a bit higher than pro plan(71 puppy,68 adult) . I haven't seen pro plan in grocery stores here, but you can buy iams in grocery stores, it's dirt cheap here.

It's always amazing to me how people will just accept something an whacko "animal rights" group will say about an company but never believe a company if they admit to oversights and explain - in detail - all precautions and changes put in place to prevent X things from happening again.

People will believe peta, AN ANIMAL "RIGHTS" <terrorist> GROUP WHO KILLS ANIMALS and has been caught in numerous lies and exaggerations, over anyone else. Is it simply because people WANT to believe the worst in others or because it's just easier to say something like: Oh, I'll never feed Iams again and not have to "risk" anything on your conscience? I'll tell you this....living in society in this day and age pretty much guarentees you consume or use several products that have been created or tested on animals. So if you want to bash Iams...quit being a hypocrite about all the other company's who's products you buy....and that would eliminate pretty much every drug of the modern era. Someone mentioned earlier that Iams is owned by P&G...have you looked at how many products P&G makes? Probably not...I would be willing to bet that anyone who will boycott Iams based on what PETA says, isn't going to be bothered taking the time to actually research anything else (like all the other products they need to boycott as well).

Simply astounding to me.

I may be out of line here. But wish they could hit the hard criminals and convicted repeated child abusers & such in the prisons & let them "volunteer" for some testing instead of getting The Chair. Maybe mix some kibbles in with the grub, observe results, oh yeah!
That Susan Smith (car in lake) would be #1 on the list for the drug testing. It would certainly make for more efficient test results! But too bad murderers have more rights than anyone/thing does anymore...

SmilingDogs, you are spot on!! You have taken the dregs of society, and actually found a constructive purpose for totally useless, destructive units!! Puppy points to you, buddy!!

i don't see how they are tourturing animals becasue they are seeing how to improe their food and seeing how the dogs will take to the food

every dog food company has to have some animals as a test subject

nutro uses dogs to test their food, eukanuba test animals and their food

it is "torture" it is just seeing how an animal who eats it will act

smilingdogs i agree with you also
