Ok...I'm hoping this is the right place for this. If not, please move it. I'm just trying to get people to read this...it's very sad. Just so you know, this isn't about me...it's about one of my friends.

I am writing to you because I have been traumatized due to the killing of my dog today (2/7/07). I returned home from work today to learn that the Zillah Police Department had shot and killed my dog. My dog had no previous history of being aggressive or vicious, nor did he physically hurt anybody today. According to the police officer, my dog (whom was locked inside my house) got out of my house due to someone opening up my back door. The dog got out of the house and ran across the street to the neighbor's house. The neighbor was alarmed that a dog came up to her car, so she ran inside and called the police. Police responded with three different units as well as a public works vehicle. Instead of responding to an attempted break-in (reason our back door was opened), the police focused on my dog. By the time police responded, my dog was back in my yard. The police officer stated that several (approximately 7) men attempted to detain my dog. Police officer stated that guns were drawn and they had "sticks" in hand and were yelling at my dog to calm down. Apparently my dog growled once cornered by these men, so they shot him. They didn't even shoot to kill because my dog was hot in the side, ran away and ended up collapsing and dying in the street. I don't understand how somone in law enforcement could kill someone's dog (family member) without following proper procedure. According to RCW 16.08.070-16.08.100, my dog should have been detained by an animal control officer, not a police officer or public works employee. Instead of following the law, the police officer took matters in to their own hands and killed my dog. This tragedy has traumatized myself, my boyfriend, and my two small children. My children are now afraid to go outside because they are afraid that they are going to be shot at. My dog has never been aggressive not even to strangers. I feel that any dog no matter what type of dog it was would have growled had they been in the scary situation my dog was placed in today. I understand that nothing will bring my dog back unfortunately, however, I would like to do whatever I can to prevent this from happening again so another family won't have to experience this trauma. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated!
I beg that you guys get this information out to as many people. You can see Bruiser's pictures on my page and see what a friendly, fun-loving dog he was. Please help me get the word of this wrong doing out. Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Thanks! ~Kendra
