My biggest gripe with all of these dog training shows is that it makes people think that's the only way to train a dog, and they think it happens in 2 seconds. It depends on each dog and how each owner wants their dog to learn. I don't like my dog to something good out of fear of punishment if she does something bad. I'd rather have her do something good to make her mommy happy. But I also understand that some dogs aren't as eager to please their owners as other dogs are, so that doesn't always work. Luckily, it does for me

I think it's ok for stoping the Cesar thing again, but I don't think it's ok to bash him while giving out the same information and video on some other dog trainer. This should be equal time.

http://www.veoh.com/videos/v5822635y...89170&rank= 0 It is about a woman who is a dog agent in Hollywood -- very funny. The website (publicityhounds.tv) asks people to submit their dogs doing tricks to appear on the show, too! Check it out |

Does anyone know the status of the lawsuit against Cesar Millan for cruelty to animals? And, I thought his show was being discontinued from National Geographic and another guy was going to be taking over the show. I can't find anything about it. Any information would be much appreciated.

I didn't know there was a lawsuit against him. Going to have to google that right now.

Here's what I found on it; seems the lab suit was settled; didn't see anythiing on the other suit. And for the record, I'm not a fan of his. I prefer trainers and behaviorists who have much more knowledge and experience, who use different methods, and who actually have a degree, the knowledge, and the experience to be a behaviorist.

A degree? To each his own but I see why a dog trainer or a dog behaviorist requires a college degree. Formal training, yes. A 4-year degree, no.
I have nothing against degrees since I have a BA,MA, & ABD myself but I was teaching PEOPLE so I needed all of that paper that came with 7 years of college. |

I don't think they need a degree either. A degree doesn't tell you anything other than the person went to a few lessons for a few years. It doesn't tell me they have real world experience with dogs.
I do agree that formal training can be an asset though. I'd prefer someone who'd done a short course, and a LOT of practical experience actually training dogs. Then someone who'd just done a degree. This is one area where practical experience is far more valuable than doing a course though. Cass. EDIT: Just wanted to clarify that I'm talking about dog 'trainers' here. Not dog behaviourists. I do believe a dog behaviourist needs formal training (not neccessarily a degree, but something more than just a weekend course -for example-). JMO though. |
