Call to have dogs vaccinated for deadly parvo virus

After a recent plague of the deadly parvo virus in Temuka, vets are urging residents to get their dogs vaccinated.

>The South Canterbury Vet Clinic Annual Dog Vaccination Run will be held in March, and vet nurse Angela Cuthbertson is urging all dog owners to take part.

"After the parvo virus that affected four dogs in Temuka it is really important that dog owners get their dogs vaccinated and we'd like to see as many people as we can at the runs."

Being held from Monday March 5 to Friday March 9, vaccinations provided prevention and the best protection against disease.

It was advised that all adult dogs received an annual vaccination, while puppies should begin their first vaccination at eights weeks, with a second booster at 12 weeks.

The cost of vaccination was $30 which included an overall health check of the dog.

The run will cover all of South Canterbury. Vets would be at the Clandeboye Hall at 2pm on Wednesday, Orari Gorge Station at 10.30am on Thursday and the Winchester wool scour road entrance at 12.30pm on Thursday.

For more times and information, people are asked to contact the Temuka Veterinary Clinic on (03) 615-7352.
