Well it actually gets scarier. i found this on another board
-------Schwarzenegger also would eliminate a requirement that people
convicted of animal cruelty be prohibited from owning a pet for three years
and be forced to pay for medical care for the animals they have
mistreated.---------

------Shelters no longer would be required to search for owners who have
embedded microchips in their pets that store addresses and phone
numbers.-----------

Anybody from Ca., I believe the Governator is waiting for Fanmail.

As much as I like Mr.S, he really needs to rethink this before PETA gets involved.

PETA is a joke too...you know they rallied in anger because the military wanted to use dolphins to hunt water mines and protect servicemen? PETA can get a lot of press time, though. Thats all we need, another California controversy...whats it been? A year?

Exactly, i really don't like PETA, and they definetly dont need more press. Anyone see those buckets of blood they handed out at KFC's across the nation?

Wow, I was not aware of that..I knew they were upset about KFC though.

PETA doesn't make me very happy, they give animal rights advocates a bad name.

Really. I was debating with someone Animal RIghts last month in Debate Club, and they said that I should move to the forest and have a veggie burger. Now, I wonder where that idea came from.

Sigh. I just saw that this afternoon on the news. Stinks. I am a member of an all breed dog rescue. Here in this little town, the shelter still stays very busy and we are always bailing out dogs on death row. It's new rescue.. hasn't been in existence for even a year yet.. but have rehomed/spayed/neutered 250 dogs. But.. over 900 dogs and cats were still euthanized this last year. Just here. Elko is not that big.

They can't even reinforce leashlaws, but make up all kinds of silly laws.
I really hate to get the government involved, but at some point it would be great if certain people just wouldn't be aloud to breed.
My dear neighbor breeds his Rotti-mix to the neighbors mud and was all happy about making $50 a pup. Those kind of people need to be shut down.
Virginia just recently proposed a bill that would require everybody to buy a breeding license, the problem is that small responsible breeder wouldn't be able to afford it, puppymills make enough money to pay for them and a lot of BYB don't even register their dogs, I'm sure they not going to pay for it.
So the only really responsible breeders are theones getting punished.

Well, maybe in areas with lots of strays. In Idaho, anyways, the majority of those pets come from owners of dogs who keep them as outdoor dogs, for guarding livestock or property. The neighbor's un-neutered male gets out to their un-spayed female, and they have puppies, so they take the ones they don't want to the pound.
The cats... They reproduce everywhere. However the cats would be SO much easier to shelter than the dogs. A little bit of land and a very large building with several open rooms for cats to run in...

Have you ever heard of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary? (I believe that is what it's called) It's just a very large place that houses thousands of animals that nobody wants. Usually the animals are those with a disability, missing leg(s), permanent illnesses and just animals that had never been adopted. They do allow people to adopt the animals, but if nobody wants them, they stay at the facility. There are like 400+ staff, from what I hear.. I just think that's such a neat idea. Not super-practical, but a good thing.

I think people should do what I did, an inquisitor sort of thing. I went around, pretending to wish to buy puppies from these BYB, with a mic and cam hidden on me, and proceeded to get cofessions while I acted like a "Comrade" of these guys and Gals. Its an awful feeling being called friend by them, but it is overpowereed by seeing them get hauled off, and the animals getting loving homes. This method I think works best, but you need to remember that you need cold hard evidence, and your word wont work in court. I remember a case where the Lady was so frantic to not get caught that she dug a ditch and buried all her animals alive, and she would of gotten away, too, if the police didn't have video evidence, and, ironically, K-9 units. they sniffed 'em out, and she is now serving maximum sentence on multiple accounts.

Wow... Sounds a bit like a lady around here did years back with a pet mill. She just pretended to want to purchase dogs and puppies and posed as a pet store owner. She had one of those tiny video cameras and a sound recorder on her, and the dogs were taken.. I don't believe the mill owner got any jailtime, though.. Too bad.

I think making mass producing illegal, and preventing petstores from selling cats and dogs, would probably help. It's not going to take care of the whole problem, but it would be a step into the right direction.

Why bother if you live in Cali? They won't be required to check for a microchip!
